CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

• INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AREAS OF EDUCATION IN


THE 21ST CENTURY. THE EDUCATION PROCESS SHOULD AIM TO EDUCATE AND PREPARE
CITIZENS FOR LIVING IN A MULTICULTURAL AND DIVERSE WORLD AND WORKING IN
MULTICULTURAL AND DIVERSE ORGANIZATIONS AND COMPANIES. THIS AIM CANNOT
BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION. (TABATADZE, 2010).
• REDUCING ETHNOCENTRISM AND INCREASING INTERCULTURAL SENSITIVITY WOULD
IMMENSELY HELP TO CREATE A BETTER SOCIETY OF DIVERSITY, EQUALITY JUSTICE AND
DEMOCRACY.

• SINCE GLOBALIZATION REQUIRES PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS TO


COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY, BEING A GLOBAL CITIZEN HAS BECOME ONE OF THE
FUNDAMENTAL EDUCATIONAL GOALS. AS A RESULT, RESEARCHERS DISCUSS THAT
CULTURAL COMPETENCE IS QUINTESSENTIAL IN EMPOWERING HUMAN BEINGS TO LIVE
AND WORK WITH PEOPLE FROM UNIQUE CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS.
•THE RESEARCHERS WOULD LIKE TO DETERMINE THE CULTURAL
COMPETENCE AMONG SELECTED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS
IN TABANGO NORTH DISTRICT SO AS TO EQUIP THE EDUCATORS
WITH CULTURAL COMPETENCE BY COMING UP WITH
DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMS SUCH AS A DISTRICT-WIDE
WEBINAR.

• THIS STUDY SEEKS TO ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
1. WHAT IS THE LEVEL OF THE RESPONDENTS’ CULTURAL COMPETENCE IN TERMS OF:
A. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT, MATERIALS, AND RESOURCES,
B. COMMUNICATION STYLES, AND
C. VALUES AND ATTITUDES?
PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION, AND
STRATEGY

• THE RESEARCHERS ARE PROPOSING AN INTERVENTION IN IMPROVING THE


CULTURAL COMPETENCE LEVEL OF THE RESPONDENTS, AND IN MAKING
THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN BY CONDUCTING A
DISTRICTWIDE WEBINAR ON CULTURAL COMPETENCE OR INTERCULTURAL
LEARNING.

DISTRICT FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2020-2021.
DATA GATHERING METHODS
• IN GATHERING DATA, THE RESPONDENTS SHALL BE GIVEN A
QUESTIONNAIRE THROUGH GOOGLE FORMS TO AVOID THE
SPREAD OF THE VIRUS OR THROUGH HARD COPIES. THE
RESEARCHERS SHALL ADHERE TO PROPER LIATF PROCEDURES.
DATA ANALYSIS PLAN
• TO COLLECT THE DATA, THE RESEARCHERS WILL USE QUESTIONNAIRES, THE CULTURAL
COMPETENCE SELF-ASSESSMENT TEST.

• THE CULTURAL COMPETENCE SELF-ASSESSMENT TEST IS COMPOSED OF THIRTY-THREE


(33) QUESTIONS. THE ITEMS WILL BE INTERPRETED USING THE 5-POINT LIKERT SCALE
FROM LEVEL 1: STRONGLY DISAGREE TO LEVEL 5: STRONGLY AGREE. THESE ITEMS WILL
ANSWER THE CULTURAL COMPETENCE OF THE RESPONDENTS.
