EARTO

European Association of Research and Technology Organisations

About organization
EARTO is the European trade association of
Research and Technology Organisations. EARTO
represents around 350 such organisations across
Europe. Its members make a major contribution to
strengthening economic competitiveness and social
development in Europe by supporting product,
process and service innovation in all branches of
industry and services, public and private.
EARTO promotes and champions the interests of
RTOs in Europe by reinforcing their profile as a key-
player category in the minds of EU decision-makers,
and by seeking to ensure that European R&D and
innovation programmes are best attuned to their
interests. The association also provides added-value
services to its members to improve their
professional practices and business performance, as
well as information and advice about European R&D
and innovation programme funding opportunities.
Missions
Promote and defend the interests of RTOs in
Europe by reinforcing their profile and
position as a key player in the minds of EU
decision-makers and by seeking to ensure
that European R&D and innovation
programmes are best attuned to their
interests; to provide added-value services to
EARTO members to help them to improve
their operational practices and business
performance as well as to provide them with
information and advice to help them make
the best use of European R&D and
innovation programme funding
opportunities.
Vision
A European research and innovation system
without borders in which RTOs occupy nodal
positions and possess the necessary
resources and independence to make a
major contribution to a competitive
European economy and high quality of life
through beneficial cooperation with all
stakeholders.
Working Groups
To define common positions and exchange
best practices, EARTO has fixed and
temporary Working Groups. These Working
Groups comprise experts from EARTO
members who assist the Secretariat in
formulating policy positions on technically
complex issues. These groups also offer the
members opportunities to network and
benchmark their services, processes and
performance against other members.
Eggs without chicken
Almost all food industries use eggs, and thus, egg
proteins dominate the protein ingredient market.
Millions of tons of eggs are needed every year, from
which a significant percentage goes to protein ingredient
production. A profound change in the global food and
agricultural systems is needed. A new approach to
produce food ingredients with high nutritional value is
vital to enable more sustainable and ethical food
production and to find new business opportunities with
better price predictability. The key solution for future
food industry is to transform food production in a way
that it will not be dependent on growing seasons or land
availability. The disruptive change that cellular
agriculture brings about can be compared to the
agricultural revolution from the 1700s to the 1900s.
technology will enable food producers to decrease
greenhouse gas emissions by up to 74% and land use by
90%**
