with 56 field offices in major cities across the United
States. The FBI also maintains over 400 resident
agencies across the United States, as well as over 50
legal attachés at United States embassies and
consulates.

Organizational structure The main branches of the FBI

The FBI is organized into functional


branches and the Office of the Director,
which contains most administrative offices.
01 FBI Intelligence Branch
An executive assistant director manages
each branch. Each branch is then divided 02 FBI National Security Branch
into offices and divisions, each headed by
FBI Criminal, Cyber, Response, and
an assistant director. The various divisions 03 Services Branch
are further divided into sub-branches, led
by deputy assistant directors. Within these
sub-branches, there are various sections 04 FBI Science and Technology Branch
headed by section chiefs. Section chiefs
