I will use the inductive approach to teach gerunds, therefore I will


not explain or present of its’rule . I let them discover rules. If any
students have a problem,I will explain.

 A: Do you like getting up at 7:30 am?


 B: Yes, I do/ No, I don’t.
 A: Why do you like doing it?
 B: Because,I like going to school.

Techer asks similar questions like above and wants them to speaking
English using gerunds forms one by one.

Teacher makes lists like above getting information from students, and
shows this list to students, after that teacher asks questions about their
friends such as

Teacher: Who likes getting up at 7:30 am?


Students: Ali and Ayşe like geting up at 7:30 am.

 A gerund is the –ing form of a verb that functions the same as a noun.
 Some verbs are followed by gerunds. When you are talking about an activity, you
usually use a gerund with these specific verbs.

 Verb + verbing form


 -- I love eating chocolate.
 -- I hate waking up early.

 List of verbs (just used by gerunds)


Admit, advise, avoid, be used to, can’t help, can’t stand, consider, deny, discuss,
dislike, end up, enjoy, feel like, finish, forget, get used to, give up, go on, have
difficulty, have problems, have trouble, imagine, it’s no use, it’s worthwhile, keep,
look forward to, mention, mind, miss, recommend, remember, quit, spend time,
stop, suggest, understand, waste time, work at
Explanation
 The gerund as the subject of the sentence.
Ving(gerunds)+(noun/noun phr.) + verb +……

Examples
 Hunting tigers is dangerous.
 Flying makes me nervous.
 Brushing your teeth is important.
 Smoking causes lung cancer.

Application/Closure
 Students are free to write a sentence or short
paragraph using gerunds.
 They will create a family chart that shows family
members actions/likes,etc.
