FUNCTION OF
PRESENT TENSE
1. HABIT

• Events that happen repeatedly/regularly/usually.

Example:
I live in Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta.
I eat three times a day.
2. GENERAL TRUTH

• Fact or valid things.

Example:
The sun rises from the east and sets in the west.
Human body consists of 70% water.
3. FIXED SCHEDULE/PLAN

• It is to state event that will definitely happen in the future.

Example:
What time does the film start?
The train arrives at 7 AM.
4. IMPERATIVE

• It is used to give order (and curse)

Example:
Open the door!
Shut up!
Behave!
5. STATIVE VERBS

Verbs that can only be used in present tense (not progressive/ ‘-ing)

They are: know, believe, hear, see, want, understand, hate, love, like,
taste, need, appear, suppose, wish, belong, remember, prefer, sound, forget,
own, smell, seem.
