FUNCTION OF
PRESENT TENSE
1. HABIT
Example:
I live in Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta.
I eat three times a day.
2. GENERAL TRUTH
Example:
The sun rises from the east and sets in the west.
Human body consists of 70% water.
3. FIXED SCHEDULE/PLAN
Example:
What time does the film start?
The train arrives at 7 AM.
4. IMPERATIVE
Example:
Open the door!
Shut up!
Behave!
5. STATIVE VERBS
Verbs that can only be used in present tense (not progressive/ ‘-ing)
They are: know, believe, hear, see, want, understand, hate, love, like,
taste, need, appear, suppose, wish, belong, remember, prefer, sound, forget,
own, smell, seem.
CONCLUSION
to be + Complement I am
He, She, It, singular noun is
• Present Tense is to show habit, general
You, We, They, plural noun are
truth, fixed plan, imperative, stative
verbs.
