The Muong

• Region: Hoa Binh, Phu Tho and


Western Thanh Hoa 
• Population: about 1.268.963
• Language: Viet- Muong
• Food: chicken, grass duck, sticky rice,
chicken crows ...
* Costume: Ao Pan

T he Muong are
concentrated in Hoa Binh,
Phu Tho and Western
Thanh Hoa province, with
a population of about
1,268,963 people,
according to the
population census 7 years
ago. The Muong speak the
Muong language, belong
to the Vietnamese - Muong
language group, in the
Vietnamese language,
belong to the Mon-Khmer
language group.

Muong costume became the
everyday clothes of the old and
present Muong people. Going
anywhere in Hoa Binh, it is easy
to see them in traditional
clothes. When staying at home,
receiving guests or even going
down the field, Muong women
are still graceful in black
dresses and polo shirts. This is a
beautiful cultural feature of
Muong ethnic people that shows
national pride and needs to be
promoted so that cultural values
are preserved in daily life.

T he cuisine of Muong ethnic


people is unique right from the
material. To make dishes with
bold identity, Muong people often
take materials available in nature
or in home gardens such as stream
fish, bamboo shoots, wild
vegetables, leaves to create five
colors ... The dishes of the
Northwest Muong people not only
delicious but also folk remedies
gathered from many generations.

Festivals of Muong people take place all year round: Charm ceremony,
field trip ceremony, rain praying ceremony, rice leaf washing ceremony,
new rice ceremony.Mong people's folk games are close to all objects of
the community: Shooting contest crossbows, swinging ... Teenage games
with cutting fish, storks, bamboo shoots ...

The Nung

• Region: Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Can,


Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Tuyen Quang ...
• Population: more than 1 million people
• Language: Tay- Thai
• Food: mainly rice
* Costume: simple, not too colorful

As the 7th most


populous ethnic group
in Vietnam, the Nung
ethnic group has more
than 1 million people,
living scatteredly in 63
provinces and cities,
but most concentrated
in the mountainous
provinces of the North
and Northeast. : Lang
Son, Cao Bang, Bac
Can, Thai Nguyen,
Bac Giang, Tuyen
Quang ...

The traditional
clothes of the Nung
people are quite
simple, often made of
self-woven raw fabrics
with almost no
decorations. Men wear
shirts with standing
collars, which have a
row of buttons. Women
wear five-body tops,
buttoned to the right,
often just above the
hips.

In the daily meals,


the Nung people
mainly eat ordinary
rice with dishes made
from beans and wild
vegetables. In the
summer, the Nung
family lunches often
with a pot of thick
porridge. The Nung
also eat sticky rice and
sticky rice (made from
upland sticky rice).

Oóc Po festival, also known as Ra Hill-Cau Mua, is a festival of the Nung
ethnic people. It is one of the festivals bearing the characteristics of the
Nung ethnic group.

The Tay
• Region: distributed in all provinces of our
country
• Population: 1,626,392 people
• Language: Tay- Thai
• Food: mainly rice
* Costume: similar to the Kinh

The Tay people


live mainly in
the lowlands of
northern
Vietnam. The
Tay was
formerly known
as the Tho The
Tay people have
the second
largest
population in
Vietnam.

Coming to Ha Giang during the full moon days of the eighth lunar
calendar, visitors will have the opportunity to witness the unique Moon
Bridge festival of the Tay people in Ban Loan village, Yen Dinh commune,
Bac Me district.

The H’Mong

• Region: Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Son

• Language: H’Mong
• Food: mainly rice

The H’Mong people in


Vietnam have a
population of 1,068,189,
ranking 8th in the list of
ethnic groups in
Vietnam, residing in 62
out of 63 provinces and
cities. Focused mainly in
the provinces of East and
Northwest of Vietnam
such as Ha Giang, Lao
Cai, Lai Chau, Son La ...

Women wear loose-
fitting skirts, split bras,
front and back aprons,
head-on, men wear
long-sleeved clothing,
wear conical hats
suitable for cold
weather conditions.

• Population: 331.1941 people
• Language: Malayô-Pôlinêxia
• Food: mainly rice

the Ede population
is estimated at
about 331,194
people, ranking
11th in the number
of ethnic groups in
Vietnam. is the
Central Highlands
of Vietnam

Traditional
men's clothing
consists of a shirt
and a loincloth
(Kpin). Women's
blouses are short-
sleeved, long-
sleeved shirts
with pullovers.

Forest leaf hot pot,


bitter tomato soup or
grilled bamboo shoots,
stir-fried with beef, are
often used by the Ede
people to treat guests
far away.
