Hungarian Literature,

Film and Music

Hungarian Literature
Péter Esterházy
The grand master of contemporary
Hungarian fiction and a commanding
presence on the international literary scene,
Péter Esterházy was perhaps the most
established of these writers within Hungary.
His major works include Helping Verbs of the
Heart, A Little Hungarian Pornography, Not
Art and Celestial Harmonies: A Novel, the
latter of which is a record of his own family’s
downfall.

Weöres Sándor: The
Brableberry
The Brambleberry
Eves of autumn
Gleam with the brambleberry’s
Gleam with the brambleberry’s
Shimm’ring dress.
Thorns a-rustling,
Winds scurry hither-thither,
Trembles the brambleberry
Comfortless.
Should but the moon let lower her veil,
Bush turns maiden, starts to wail…
Eves of autumn
Gleam with the brambleberry’s
Gleam with the brambleberry’s
Shimm’ring dress.
Weöres Sándor,
Galagonya
