Pat’s Story

Pat is the eldest old five


children. She has a six-year-old
brother, Jun-Jun, twin sisters,
and a baby brother. She had just
arrived from school and she had
to cook dinner for the family.
It was almost eight o’clock in
the evening and her parents were
not home yet. Pat and her
brothers and sisters had already
eaten their dinner. She told
them to go to sleep. She told
jun- Jun to turn off the radio.
Finally, Jun-Jun went to bed.
Her brothers and sisters were
already asleep when she heard the
people shouting, “Fire! Fire! Dark
smoke was all around. She ran to
the bedroom and shook Jun-Jun.
“Jun-Jun! she said. “There’s a
fire somewhere. Don’t be
frightened.” Then she got a
blanket and wrapped it around
the baby.
“Hold on to me,” Pat said to
Jun-Jun. “Hold on to Jun-Jun,
she told the twins. “Cover your
face with your blankets,” she
told the younger children.
Pat heard some people
shouting. She could hardly see
through the smoke. She pulled
the children towards the
directions of the voices. Finally,
firefighter and police officers
came to their rescue.
