School vs.

Household Chores:
An Analysis on the Learning
Experience of Students Amidst
this Pandemic

Chapter 1- Introduction
Background of the Study
• The Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which has
already infected almost 3 million people in 148 countries has resulted
in more than two hundred thousand deaths worldwide and has wrecked
chaos around the globe.

• We are only beginning to understand the economic impacts of COVID-


19, but many other issues have emerged and need to be urgently
addressed, like the closure of schools and its impact on learning and the
burden of education on students, parents and teachers.
• Interactive online classes are also providing opportunities for social interaction
and facilitating the continuity of education for all via remote learning.

• When schools close, many children and youth miss out on social contact that is
essential to learning and development (Union, 2020).
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the learning experience of students amidst this pandemic we are facing
while they are in their home. Specifically, the study tends to answer the following questions:

1. What are the characteristics of the students / respondents in terms of:


1.1 Age?
1.2 Gender?

2. What are the techniques of students in managing their time doing school works and household
chores in terms of:
2.2 Doing their school works first before household chores?
2.3 Doing their household chores first before school works?
Methodology
 Research Design
• This study is aiming at exploring learning experiences of students regarding home
learning and management during the times of COVID 19. The type of this study is
Quantitative research allowing the researchers to explore the phenomenon from students’
personal experiences in their learning experience amidst this situations and circumstances.
 Research Locale
• The study will be conducted at Davao Oriental State University. The researcher would like
to implement their study in this place because it will be flexible to the researcher and can
easily select random students from different institutes and google form will be utilize for
answering since face to face session is not allowed.
 Research Participants
• For this research study, a random set of 20 students would be selected from Davao
Oriental State University, spending at least 4 hours attending in class and who is also
doing household chores, having access to the internet and no COVID would be selected
to be a part of this study.
