Welcome to our P.

A project
Topic = electricity generation through fusion energy
Abstract
• Harnessing the energy of thermonuclear fusion reactions is one of the
greatest challenges of our time. Fusion, the nuclear reaction that
powers the Sun and stars would provide mankind with a safe,
environmentally benign, and virtually limitless source of energy
Why this topic ?
• Most of us were aware of nuclear fission mechanism which is already
in use like in weopen , nuclear powered machine and many more .
• But very few were aware of the magic of nuclear fission energy which
could be used to satisfy the energy needs of thousands century .
• Unlike fission reaction (which needs very rare plutonium 239 and
uranium 235 ) ,nuclear fusion requried highly abundantly available
hydrogen element and its isotopes to function .
• The only problem exist till now regarding harnessing fusion energy is
undeveloped infrastructure and reaction initiation techniques, thats
why we decided to go in this direction for our p.a project .
Objectives of our idea and project
• Momentarily produce a fusion plasma with thermal power ten times
greater than the injected thermal power (a Q value of 10).
• Produce a steady-state plasma with a Q value greater than 5. (Q = 1 is
scientific breakeven.)
• Maintain a fusion pulse for up to 8 minutes.
• Develop technologies and processes needed for a fusion power station
— including superconducting magnets and remote handling
 (maintenance by robot).
International colaboration
• Two decades of collaborative work ensued as the project's members –
the USA, the USSR (later Russia), Europe (Euratom) and Japan,
joined by China and Korea in 2003 and by India in 2005 – fine-tuned
the design of the installation and eventually agreed on the location for
its construction.
• In October 2007, the ITER International Fusion Energy Organization
(in short the ITER Organization) was officially established, and the
dream of three generations of fusion physicists and engineers at last
had a legal framework and a home to become reality.
Recognition of this proposed idea
• The ITER Project received a decisive political push in November 1985
when President Reagan and Secretary General Gorbachev met in
Geneva and agreed on launching “the widest practicable development
of international cooperation in obtaining [fusion] energy, which is
essentially inexhaustible, for the benefit for all mankind.”

• Our project idea was compelety based on this international effort and
also ,we incorporate its implementation in our beloved country .
India’s contribution

Cryostat assembly underway

The 3,800-ton ITER cryostat will be the largest stainless steel vacuum chamber in the world. It will
encase the entire vacuum vessel and all the superconducting magnets, ensuring an ultra-cool, protective
environment.

India is manufacturing the cryostat, but it is far too massive to be shipped as a whole. Steel segments
have been precision-fabricated by Larsen & Toubro in India and transported by sea to Marseille. About
half the cryostat has been shipped so far. At the ITER worksite, the Indian Domestic Agency is
supervising a team of German welders in the final fabrication of the first two sections—the base and
lower cylinder.

The cryostat base, at 1,250 tons, will be among the heaviest single loads of machine assembly. It will
also be the first major component installed.
• Conclusion

• ITER marks both the culmination of six decades of international

scientific and technological effort and the opening of a new and
decisive chapter in the history of fusion research. By demonstrating
the feasibility of fusion energy, ITER will answer the question that has
obsessed three generations of physicists and engineers. It will realize
the Promethean dream of bringing the fire of the Sun down to Earth.
