Adjectives
Comparative adjectives
Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects they modify (larger,
smaller, faster, higher). They are used in sentences where two nouns are compared, in this pattern:

Noun (subject) + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun

(object).
Examples
• The rock flew higher than the roof.
• Jim and Jack are both my friends, but I like Jack better
• My house is larger than hers.
• This box is smaller than the one I lost.
• Your dog runs faster than Jim's dog.
Superlative adjectives
Superlative adjectives are used to describe an object which is at the upper or lower
limit of a quality (the tallest, the smallest, the fastest, the highest). They are used in
sentences where a subject is compared to a group of objects.

Noun (subject) + verb + the + superlative adjective + noun (object).

Examples

• My house is the largest one in our neighborhood.

• This is the smallest box I've ever seen.
• Your dog ran the fastest of any dog in the race.
• We all threw our rocks at the same time. My rock flew the highest.

One syllable adjectives
Add -er for the comparative and -est for the superlative. If
the adjective has a consonant + single vowel + consonant
spelling, the final consonant must be doubled before
adding the ending.
02
Two syllable adjectives
For adjectives ending in y, change the y to an i before adding the ending.
03
Three or more syllable
adjectives
Adjectives with three or more syllables form the comparative by
putting more in front of the adjective, and the superlative by
putting most in front.

ADVERB
Comparative Adverb
COMPARATIVE ADVERBS is an adverb that compares two or more behaviors to
show which one is more or most superior, inferior, or equal to one another.

Example: I swim faster than my father.

1. The sentence shows a comparison between my and my
father's ( swim ) behavior , in which I swim faster than my father.
2. There are three forms of comparative adverbs , namely:
3. Majority: Jena can read more clearly than her friends in class.
4. Equality: I draw as badly as my five-year-old brother.
5. Minority: Grandpa walks slower than grandma.
Comparative Adverb
Comparative sentences almost always use the word than after
the comparative adverbs, but there are times when the word than is not
used. Among other things, when:

1. What is being compared is not shown but it is clear that the meaning is
understood.
• The new technician checks the air conditioning more thoroughly
2. Using conjunctions
• He worked on the project harder, but she did more efficiently.
• My cousin visited grandpa longer, but I did more often.
Comparative Adverb
Comparative Adverb
Superlative Adverb
SUPERLATIVE ADVERBS is used to compare two or more people / things,
ie to show which one has the best quality, the negative form is to show
which one has the worst quality.

Superlative adverbs describe a verb that is in a sentence to separate something

related to the subject's behavior.

Example : Andy sings the loudest in his vocal class.

1. The sentence shows that Andy sang the loudest in his vocal class.
2. To more easily recognize the difference between comparative and superlative
adverbs, please look at the following table and examples.
Forming of Superlative
Adverb
The rules for forming a superlative adverb is rather
straightforward. If the adverb has the same form as a one-
syllable adjective simply add the suffix –est to the end of the
word.
1. For example:
2. Superlative Adverb Example: Barry slept the longest.
3. Superlative Adverb Example: Jack’s bullfrog jumped
the highest.
4. Superlative Adverb Example: Naomi finished the quickest.
