TECHNICAL COMMITTEE : GREEN BUILDING COMMITTEE (GBC)

Green Building Committee provides strategic

advice and recommendations through shared
services for the Green building under the
Building Engineering Institute (BEI) formation.
(GBC) is an emerging organization that pursuing
the movement of green buildings and
sustainable development. GBC will be leading on
awareness raising, knowledge sharing, training
and setting the standards of responsible and
efficient built environment as part of the
Myanmar National Building Code (MNBC 2016).
OBJECTIVES of GBC-BEI

• To serve and promote the design and construction practices of

GREEN building design and constructions.
• To organize such as forum, seminar, workshop and other
activities for research, education, design, construction, testing,
manufacturing and operations related to building industry.
• To develop and implement the programs, trainings and
activities to enhance technology transfer, business practices
and professional activities, the advancement of the design and
construction of green buildings and provide a means for
coordination and communication with the local programs.
• To develop guidelines, specifications and code of practices in
building sectors
Role and Responsibility OF GBC-BEI
• To develop and promote, internally and externally,
communications with relevant stakeholders using
the most appropriate medium so that appreciation
of the value engineering contributes to the welfare
and safety of society is enhanced.
• To liaise with other relevant organizations, including
government, other professional institutions and
industrial bodies
• To establish Technical References, Guidelines and
Journals which are related to Green Buildings.
• To inform about the activities and information
about GBC-BEI (Building Engg. Institute ) to the
public.
WHAT IS GREEN BUILDING

 Green building (also known as green

construction or sustainable building) refers to
both a structure and the using of processes that are
environmentally responsible and resource-efficient
throughout a building's life-cycle: from siting to
design, construction, operation, maintenance,
renovation, and demolition.
.
Green building design involves finding the
balance between homebuilding and the
sustainable environment.
This requires close cooperation of the
design team, the architects, the engineers,
and the client at all project stages.
The Green Building practice expands and
complements the classical building design
concerns of economy, utility, durability, and
comfort
The common objective of green buildings
is to reduce the overall impact of the built
environment on human health and the
natural environment by:
• Efficiently using energy, water, and other
resources
• Protecting occupant health and
improving employee productivity
• Reducing waste, pollution and
environmental degradation
GOALS OF GREEN BUILDING

1. Life cycle assessment

2. Siting and structure design
efficiency
3. Energy efficiency
4. Water efficiency
5. Materials efficiency
6. Indoor environmental
quality enhancement
7. Operations and
maintenance optimization
8. Waste reduction
OBJECTIVES

Recommendation on all aspects of Building
Architecture and Green in support the
advancement of BEI agenda, consistent
with International as well as Myanmar
National Building Code.

To promote and encourage the

development of green buildings in
Myanmar through research, regulations
and activities related to Architecture for
energy efficiency and green.
1. GREEN BLDG MOVEMENT / ACTIVITIES:
Upgrading young architects and Engineers for the professional
development, such as:

• Drafting of Green Chapter in MNBC

• Workshop/ Seminars: Local/ Abroad,
•CPD and activities, etc.
•Addresses and responds to issues or recommendations in the field of
