When did the story take place?

Describe it briefly.
It happened in 1768. During this time
there were no electricity yet and Matt
and his father needed to gather logs and
twigs so they can make fire to cook their
food and warm their place. It was the
time where Indians travelled and went to
different places where they could settle..

The story happened in one of the
wilderness in Maine wherein Matt’s
family built their cabin. It was far
away from the town so they did not
have neighbors at all.
Who are the main characters?
Protagonist
Matt was the main character of the story. Matt was a young boy who
was taught to be polite. He loves his family and respect his father very
well. He is very resourceful and love to learn new skills.
Attean was an Indian boy with a dark eyes. He is very good in hunting,
fishing and tracking. He is respectful to their tribe’s beliefs and
traditions.
Saknis was Attean’s grandfather and leader of the tribe. He does not
like white men.
Antagonist
Ben was a stranger who took advantage to Matt’s being hospitable and
polite. He always makes lies about his story and make himself a good
person.
How would you summarize the story’s
sequence of events and action?
Chapter 1
In the first chapter Matt’s family moved in
one of the wilderness in Maine. He helped his
father build a small cabin. He was left alone when
his father went to Massachusetts to be with his
sister and his mother who will give birth to his new
sibling. Matt’s father barely talks but he was so
happy when his father gave him a watch and his
old riffle that he can use for hunting.
Chapter 2
His father left him alone in the cabin to be
with his sister and his mother in Massachusetts
who is about to give birth to his new sibling. Matt
cooked his own meal and do other chores while his
family was away. He was a little scared because
he thought there were Indians wandering around
the wilderness and watching him at night, but he
was always reminded about what his father told
him that whenever he’ll meet an Indian he needs to
be polite at all times.
Chapter 3
In this chapter Matt met a
stranger who went straight into
their cabin. His name was Ben.
Matt fed him and let him sleep in
their cabin. But even though Matt
showed him goodness Ben stole his
riffle and left.
Chapter 4

Matt was very sad when he went to the forest. As he saw

rabbits and squirrels he does not have any rifle to hunt, but he

was still grateful because he still have his fishing pole that he

can use in the pond. But as he arrives home he was shocked

when a bear scattered the food in their cabin. The bear left

him with just two handful good for his meal.


Chapter 5

Matt wanted a tasty meal so he remembered a tree full of bees.

He wanted to get the honey so he went to the forest with an empty

keg. When Matt was able to get some honey the swarm of bees sting

him on his hands and face. He was able to run into the icy water

feeling so much pain. He tried to swim as the bees still around him but

his feet was tangled into the weeds under. Someone grabbed his hands

and helped him. It was an Indian man who brought him into their cabin

and give him medicine.


Chapter 6

Matt woke up feeling better as the Indian man helped him. In

this chapter Matt met the man who helped him, it was Saknis the

leader of the tribe. He also met an Indian boy named Attean. Matt

handed Saknis a book as his thank you gift for saving him, but he

realized that they cannot read so Saknis asked Matt to read what

was the book all about. Saknis made a deal that they will bring him

food like rabbit and Matt will teach them how to read.
Chapter 7

Matt knew that it will be hard for him to teach them

how to read so he came up with an idea. He will teach them

the alphabet using the things that he can see and find inside

the cabin. Matt thought that Attean will not come but the

Indian came and brought him a rabbit that day. Attean was

impatient to learn how to read and left the cabin.
