cliché
• A saying or remark that is very often made and is
therefore not original and not interesting:
• My wedding day - and I know it's a cliché - was just the
happiest day of my life.
• an idea or expression that has been used too often and
is often considered a sign of bad writing or old-
fashioned thinking:
• The story is shamelessly corny, and grownups will
groan at its clichés.

redundancy
the unnecessary use of more than one word or
phrase meaning the same thing:
• Avoid redundancy or unnecessary words.
• "The phrase 'humourless workplace' is a redundancy,"
he says.
• a situation in which someone loses their job
because their employer does not need them:
• The economic downturn has meant 10,000
redundancies in the Northeast.
• She took voluntary redundancy.

Verbosity
• using or containing more words than are
necessary:
• a verbose explanation/report/speech/style
• He was a notoriously verbose after-dinner speaker.
• the quality or state of being verbose or wordy : the
use of too many words

Pomposity
• Pomposity means speaking or behaving in a very
serious manner which shows that you think you
are more important than you really are.

Jargon
• special words and phrases that are used by
particular groups of people, especially in their
work: and which most other people do not
understand:

Terminology
• special words or expressions used in relation to a
particular subject or activity:

Euphemism
a word or phrase used to avoid saying an unpleasant
or offensive word:
"Senior citizen" is a euphemism for "old person".
The article made so much use of euphemism that often
its meaning was unclear.

Slang
• very informal language that is usually spoken
rather than written, used especially by particular
groups of people:
• "Chicken" is slang for someone who isn't very brave
• to attack with angry, uncontrolled language:

game.
