skills that teachers should acquire. Five (5) out Seven (7) trainers
admit that they still need lots of trainings and seminars for them
to become effective in the delivery of the lesson or learnings
through theory or practical.
RECOMMENDATION

Teachers now-a-days must acquire skills when it comes to teaching. There is no learning
for the students if we will only focus on theories. Some teaching skills may adapt from
one teacher to another. But the very helpful thing to do in acquiring teaching skills is to
be well trained and knowledgeable by means of attending seminars. Some teachers have
constant teaching skills but some haven’t. In order for her/him to be effective, one
should engage herself/himself in attending seminars to acquire additional knowledge
and skills. These trainings will not only help to be an effective teacher, but a successful
one as well.
Five Recommended Teaching Skills Teachers
should acquire:

1. Patience Teaching Skills – Without patience, teachers will have hard time being an
effective teacher. Learners at this generation are more likely to be spoiler or bully. The
more they see that the teachers are annoyed by their behavior the more they will irritate
their teachers. In TESDA-BCAT trainees are not likely focus on academic they are
more on acquiring skills that they enrolled in. So it gets them bored if the trainers will
focus on theory.
2. Creativity – as teachers/trainers they should have the creative side in
order to motivate the learners or trainees to excel in their performance.
Teachers should be the model to instill the learning to the students or
trainees.
3. Communication and Collaboration - Teachers need the ability to
communicate important information, as well as understand different
perspectives. In this field it is very important to have work
collaboration to make learning more evident and effective. Peer
coaching is a big help so there should be a team work in providing
quality learning to the students or trainees.
4. Likeable Personality – another skill a teacher or trainer should possess
to make the learners comfortable attending the sessions. Teachers should be
approachable and good facilitator. Being rude will cause mistrust and
unhealthy teacher-student relationship.
5. Self-Discipline – In order to impose discipline to the learners, teachers
should have discipline first. Having self-discipline implies that you have the
will to control situations involving misbehaviors of the learners. One should
be firm and fair with the discipline strategies you will impose as a teacher or
facilitator.
CONCLUSION

These are just five of the essential, personal skills teachers should possess. Other traits,
like being able to adapt, having self-awareness, and having a great passion for your job,
are also on the top of the list of skills teachers should acquire. If you find that you don’t
have these skills, then it’s not too late to develop them now. All you have to do is be
mindful of what skills you need to retain and practice implementing them each and every
day and be open-minded attending seminars to gain additional knowledge and skills on
how to handle your learners and have effective learning outcomes.
