• It is important that there is a good
flow to a cell meeting. This will take
THE CELL preparation in prayer and in leading
everyone to recognize the presence
MEETING of Jesus in each meeting. If it
appears disjointed some may
become unsettled or restless, so try
to keep it moving!
The cell meeting should normally consist of the following elements:

. Welcome: (Man to Man Dynamics )

How we welcome people feel will affect the whole evening. It is also an
important time to create an atmosphere of openness and trust.

THE CELL • Worship:

(Man to God Dynamics )

MEETING
Many cell leaders will attest; the better the worship, the better the rest
of the meeting. Make your music flow and Spirit`s anointing flow.

• Words:
AGENDA •
(God to Man Dynamics )
Keep the main thing, the main thing. Applying the truth each member got from the
sermon (if they were there), or from what God spoke to them during the week`s
devotion (if they missed the sermon).

• Works/Witness: (Man to Man Dynamics

• It's important to finish the evening looking out and recognizing that the Holy Spirit
empowers us to fulfill God's purpose of reaching people who do not yet know him.

• VENUE
It will be good if you select a place fitted to cater the needs of the
group. See to it that it is accessible to all cell participants.

• TIME

THE CELL A cell can meet at any time that suits all members. It could be after
school or housework, at the weekend or in the evening. However, it is
good to have a fixed meeting.

MEETING • HOW LONG SHOULD THE MEETING LAST?

FACTOR A cell meeting will realistically take between 1 to 1.1/2 hours

from start to finish.

• REMOVE DISTRACTIONS
Take practical steps to remove any distractions – all cell phone on the silent
mode and no texting back during the cell meeting. Try to keep everyone in a
circle so that no-one feels left out or hidden. Make sure someone has been
designated to look after refreshments. Ensure that the room is not too hot or
too cold. All these little details can make a big

fellowship & especial events, Church

RESPONSIBILITIES
OF A CELL MEMBERS
It is the responsibility of every Cell member to honor
their Cell leader.

1. HONOR
(Deut. 5:16). Obviously, this is talking about natural children with
their natural parents. But, spiritually, the principle applies that we
should respect and honor those that are not only older than us in the
Lord but that have mentored us in the Lord. It is mentioned in
Ephesians and Colossians, as well, to honor your parents, to honor
your father. It means to give value to, to prize highly. It means to
respect. But also the Hebrew word here translated “honor” means to
make weighty or to make heavy. The words and the example, the
lifestyle and the wisdom, that is shared with us by our spiritual
mentors, by our spiritual fathers, should carry much weight in our
lives. We honor them by giving heed to what they say and to their
lifestyle, by weighing their words very carefully and by paying
careful attention to their example. That honors them.
RESPONSIBILITIES
OF A CELL MEMBERS

Put into practice the truth that is

2. PRACTICE heard.

It is not good enough to just be a

good listener. We need to be doers. We need to
put that truth in practice. (2 John 4). It didn’t just
say, “I found your children listening to truth,”
but “walking in truth.” There is a huge difference
between listening to truth and walking in truth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
OF A CELL MEMBER

The cell members should surpass their cell

3. SURPASS
leaders success.
They should go beyond where their cell leaders have
gone. (Deut. 30:5). So not only will you possess that
which your fathers had, but you will go beyond your
fathers. The Lord says, “What your fathers possessed,
you are going to possess that. But I am going to
prosper you and multiply you beyond that. And it
should be that way because if indeed we have been
properly mentored, we have the advantage of not
only the father’s example but also his wisdom in
sharing all of the mistakes that he made.
AREAS THAT SPIRITUAL FATHERS OR CELL
LEADERS NEED TO EXERCISE CAUSION

“They need to caution against becoming jealous is

their Spiritual children/cell members do surpass

1. JEALOUSY
them”

It is an attitude that must be guarded against because you

will find sometimes that some people will just love you
and they will “rah, rah” you until you begin to do well.
And then if they are not secure, they will feel threatened
and they may either cut you off or try and cut you down
to size. And we need to guard against that feeling of
insecurity that if someone that we’ve sowed into begins to
multiply and begins to prosper, that we feel somehow
threatened by their success, we need to guard against
that. It ought to be cause for rejoicing. It means you’ve
done your job well! It is a reflection on your mentorship.
AREAS THAT SPIRITUAL FATHERS OR CELL
LEADERS NEED TO EXERCISE CAUSION
“You must make sure you tend to
your own Spiritual Growth”

2. STAGNATION (Deut. 4:9). Now if you don’t take heed to

yourself, if you don’t diligently keep yourself, the
things that God has put in your heart will slip
away. It is possible for things that were once
living and real in your heart to depart from your
heart. You have to tend to yourself and keep
yourself if you want to remain in the position
where you have something to give to the children
and to the grandchildren. (1 Tim. 4:12-15). You
are to progress in the spiritual life. You are not to
remain stagnant.
AREAS THAT SPIRITUAL FATHERS OR CELL
LEADERS NEED TO EXERCISE CAUSION
“Guard against becoming dictatorial.”

3. DICTATORIAL Some
people in the name of mentoring have begun to lord it
over those in their care, something that God never
intended. God wants us to lead by example, not by
dictate. You see, the goal of a real Cell leader, a
spiritual parent, is to bring those in their care to a
state of spiritual maturity so that they begin to depend
upon Jesus themselves. First Peter 5:1. Peter is
writing here. He says, “The elders…” Elders are the
spiritual leaders, the spiritual fathers, the mentors. (1
Peter 5:1-3). Not as being lords or masters or dictators
or rulers over those entrusted to you. See, people are
entrusted to your care, but you need to lead by example…
as being examples to the flock.
AREAS THAT SPIRITUAL FATHERS OR CELL
LEADERS NEED TO EXERCISE CAUSION
“Endeavor not to judge your cell members
by outward appearance.”

4. Don’t ever sell your cell member short as to what

God might do with their lives. It has been my

JUDGEMENTAL experience that most generally it is the people that

you would never suspect of doing great things that
God chooses to do great things through. The
Scripture says, “Not many mighty, not many noble
are called. But God chooses the weak things, God
chooses the foolish things and the things that are
despised to bring to nothing the things that are
mighty and the things that are esteemed in the
eyes of man.”
AREAS THAT SPIRITUAL FATHERS OR CELL
LEADERS NEED TO EXERCISE CAUSION

“Be careful not to invest in people’s

lives for the motive of personal

5. PERSONAL
benefit.”
(2 Cor. 12:14-15). He said, “I am going to sow into your

BENEFIT
lives if you never reciprocate. Even if the more I love
you, the more I spend myself for your benefit, if I am
loved the less for it, I am going to continue because I am
not in this for personal benefit.”

A true Cell leader is there for

the benefit of others, and God sees it all. And, friend,
God will make things up. Payday always comes with God.
It may not come the first and the fifteenth, but God
always settles up, and He never misses anything. He
keeps perfect records. We must watch our heart. We
must watch our hearts in that area.
AREAS THAT SPIRITUAL FATHERS OR CELL
LEADERS NEED TO EXERCISE CAUSION

“Don’t assume that our cell members

ever outgrow the need for our
6. prayers.”

ASSUMPION
Galatians 4:19. Paul writes to the Galatians. He says, “My
little children, for whom I labor in birth again until
Christ is formed in you.” He is talking about laboring in
prayer, but he is using the analogy of a woman laboring
in birth. “My little children, for whom I labor again until
Christ is formed in you.” He had done it the first time.
He had preached the gospel to them. He had labored in
prayer. They were born into the kingdom. Now he says, “I
am laboring again until Christ is formed in you.” Well,
Christ being formed in us is a lifelong process. It is never
finished.
