what
Should we know about
LEPTOSPIROSIS
???
“Leptospirosis is a
possibly fatal bacterial
disease that affect
human and animals
alike.”
—LEPTOSPIROSIS
LEPTOSPIROSIS
Etiology
it is caused by spiral shaped bacteria of the genus Leptospira.
It is spread through the urine of infected animals
The source of Leptospirosis transmission are rodents (rats, squirrels),
pigs, cows, goats, sheep, horses, dogs, cats, insects, birds, insectivores
(hedgehogs, bats). rats are the main source of leptospirosis transmission
(especially in indonesia).
It is prevalents in fresh water, soil, and mud in tropical areas.

Environmental conditions
can be a risk factor for
leptospirosis, such as in
flood-prone areas. floods
increase the risk of
leptospirosis through
bacteria carried by reservoir
animals to humans.

WHY ???
02 leptospirosis
Leptospira can survive in an environment
03 with a pH close to neutral (6.8 – 7.4).
Leptospira can live for months in a warm
environment (22◦C) and relatively neutral pH
(pH 6.2-8).
These bacteria can live in reminiscent water.
The characteristics of water in rice fields that
are suitable for Leptospira bacteria are
stagnant water with a height of 5-10 cm and a
pH between 6.7-8.5.
