HISTORY OF SYMBIAN OS 

• IN 1980, EPOC (Electronic Piece of Cheese) was the initial name of Symbian OS and  it was
founded by David Potter of Psion (Potter Scientific Instrument). 
         - It is available in 2 versions. 16-bit that was written in C and the 32-bit that was written in C++.
• June 21, 1998,  a major partnership between Psion, Ericsson, Motorola, and Nokia created
Symbian Ltd., and they renamed the EPOC into Symbian OS.
• In June 2008, Nokia announced the acquisition of Symbian Ltd., and established a new
independent non-profit organization called the Symbian Foundation, with an intention of
making the Symbian platform as an open-source software.
• Throughout the years, they had created major updates for the OS such as Symbian version
6, 7, 8, 9, Symbian Anna and Symbian Belle being the last before its discontinuation in May
2014.
