Definition

• Argumentative is a paragraph that


explains and convinces the reader about
the pro (agree) and contra (disegree),
which is ofter called the argumentative
paragraph. As the name implies,
argumentative paragraphs contain
controversial topics for the public and
actual news that exist in society today.
Purpose
Argument has two purpose. It is used to
- Change peoples points of view or persuade the to accept new
points of view.
- Persuade peoples to a particular action or new behavior.
Language features
The language elements of language features of Argumentative Text Include:
- Abstarct Noun
nouns that are abstract (connot be seen, heard or touched), for example:
beauty, bravery, culture, confidence, goodness, hope,etc.
- Action Verb
verbs that descibe actions that can be done by humans or animals, for
example: eat, touch, talk, watch, walk, etc
- Temporal connectives
vocabulary that relates one event to another sequentially, for example:
firstly, secondly, thirdly, etc.
- Modal Auxiliaries
example : can, may, must, should, etc.
- Technical Terms
example : examination, score, assessment, evaluation, test, etc.
- Reasoning Connectives
example : because of, so, therefore, etc.
- Simpe Present Tense
Generic structure
• Argumentative has a generic structure
that is:
1. It has a topic sentence.
2. It has supporting sentences for pros and
supporting sentences for cons. Futher
both of these are cellend argument.
3. It has to use deductive or inductive
reasoning, cause and effect. And
argument by authority.
Kinds Argumentative

In general, argument Text is divided into two types,


namely Argument Text cause and Effect and Casual
Argument. The two types of text, namely:
Argument Text Cause and Effect, a type of argument
text that begins with someone’s opinion, which is a
cause-and-effect of the problems that occur and then is
directed to a universal conclusion. Causal Argument
Text, a type of argument text that begins by describing
a problem that occurs and contains the impact of the
problem.
Example
Smoking there are many reasons why i don’t smoke.
Fist, smoking is unhealthy. This can lead to lung
cancer, and can lead to premature death. Besides,
smoking is expensive. One pack of cigarettes costs Rp.
20,000. if i bought a pack of cigerattes at least twice a
week, I’d be spending more than IDR 1,000,000 each
year. Lastly, cigarettes smell bed. When people smoke,
you can smell the cigarette on their clothes or the
breath of those who are interacting with us all day
long. In short, i don’t smoke because it’s unattractive
