INTRODUCTION

 Core spun yarns have a distinct core and sheath fibre assembly . Core can be either elastic
or non-elastic.
 The core is usually 2–10% of the total yarn mass.
CHARACTERISTICS

Type Sub-category Structure and form Characteristics

Core spun nature Rigid/elastic core Spun in appearance, Strong, soft feel,
core filament at centre, extension controllable
extendable by
nature of core filament
PRODUCTION

 Can be produced by ring spinning machine used in the cotton, worsted ,jute industry , on
rotor and friction spinning machines.

PRODUCTION(continue)

 RIGID YARN
 Filament is introduced at the centre of the drafted ribbon under a pre-tension at the nip of
the front roller of the drafting unit
 twisted together by a ring twisting device
 Pre tension is equivalent to 5% of the extension of continuous filament yarn to ensure a
true axial position of the filament
 For the production on a friction spinning machine filament yarn, under tension, is
introduced by the front roller of the roller drafting unit between the nip of the twisting
drums.

 ELASTIC YARN
PRODUCTION (continue)

 ELASTIC YARN
 An elastomeric filament is introduced at the centre of the strand
 The filament is stretched before entering the spinning zone
 This stretch imparts Compacting and bulking of the spun yarn cover
 pool of the elastomeric yarn is fed by a positively driven feed roller system
 The stretch in the filament is adjusted by the speed of the feed roller
