What is Delta Variant?
● Delta variant was more infectious
and was leading to increased
transmissibility when compared to
other variants, even in vaccinated
individuals.
● Some data suggest the Delta variant
might cause more severe illness
than previous strains in
unvaccinated persons.
What is Delta Variant?

● Unvaccinated people remain the


greatest concern.
● Fully vaccinated people with Delta
variant breakthrough infections can
spread the virus to others. However,
vaccinated people appear to be
infectious for a shorter period.
ETIOLOGY
The Delta variant was first
identified in India in December
2020 and led to major
outbreaks in the country.

It then spread rapidly and is


now reported in 104
countries, according to a
CDC tracker.

As of July 2021, DELTA is


regarded as the most
contagious form of the SARS-
CoV-2 coronavirus so far.
EPIDEMIOLOGY
● Of the additional 182 Delta
● As of August variant cases, 112 are local
