INTRODUCTION
Human rights are rights we have simply because we exist as human beings - they are
not granted by any state.

These universal rights are inherent to us all, regardless of nationality, sex, national or
ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status.

They range from the most fundamental - the right to life - to those that make life
worth living, such as the rights to food, education, work, health, and liberty.
Human rights have Several environmental issues

closely linked

 These include the equitable distribution of

environmental resources, the utilization of
resources and Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs),
conflicts between people and wild-life especially
around PAs,
 resettlement issues around development projects
such as dams and mines, and access to health to
prevent environment related diseases.
How Are Human Rights Linked With Environment?
---------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
All human beings depend on the
environment in which we live.
A safe, clean, healthy and sustainable
environment is integral to the full
enjoyment of a wide range of human
rights, including the rights to life, health,
food, water and sanitation.
Without a healthy environment, we are
unable to fulfil our aspirations. We may
not have access to even the minimum
standards of human dignity.
Protecting Human
Rights Protects The
Environment
• The recognition of the links
between human rights and the
environment has greatly
increased.
• The number and scope of
international and domestic
laws, judicial decisions, and
academic studies on the
relationship between human
rights and the environment are
growing rapidly.
Environmental rights are not abstract, remote, irrelevant concepts; they are
measurable, prominent and functional aspects of society and its ecology.

When environmental rights are violated, people and the planet suffer from
reduced health and well-being.

The linking of human rights to environmental priorities is an

acknowledgement that conservation will not be successful without human
development.

A range of diverse actions are required at both national and international

level, with inalienable human rights providing the basis for such action
 In a community everyone should have equal

Equity access to the resources and opportunities.

 Right To Use The Available Land, water Food.

 People Cant Use Up All The Available

Resources.

 Thus Take Steps To Reduce Use Of Resources

And Waste Generation
 People living in the wilderness will
use the natural resources. Sufficient
for personal use or small traditional
business.

 People in the developed region of the

world will use excess resources to
produce on a large area to make
profit.
No Group Or Individual Should Carry Greater Environmental

Burden

Poor people suffer more than the rich because:

 They are the weaker section of the society.

 Of the money, knowledge, skills .
 They can afford to stay in places less degraded thus poor people are exploited.
Nutrition And Human Rights
 Nutrition affects and defines the health
status of all people, rich and poor.

 There are links between environment,

nutrition and health which must be seen
from a human rights perspective.

 Freedom from hunger and malnutrition

is recognized as crucial for the
enjoyment of all human rights.
 Human rights are moral principles
or norms that describe certain
standards of human behaviour

 Nutrition is also one of many

underlying social-economic
determinants of the right to the
highest attainable standard of health.

 The human rights framework

provides a roadmap for governments
Human Rights
 The 1948 universal declaration of
human rights mentions health as part of
right to an adequate standard living. It
was recognised in the year 1966.
 Article 12:
The States Parties to the present Covenant
recognize the right of everyone to the
enjoyment of the highest attainable
standard of physical and mental health.
