 Jim Corbett National Park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. It was
renamed as Corbett National Park in 1955-56. It is Asia’s first National Park
 It is honored as the place where Project Tiger was first launched in 1973
 It is the sole national park in India that offers night stay inside it’s jungle
 The park is governed by Uttarakhand State Government
 It is located between Siwalik Himalayas and the Terrai
 The park can be reached by road and rail , Ramnagar being the best approach to
reach the park.

 The park has 06 ecotourism Zones namely Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna,
Sonanadi, Durgadevi and Dhela
 The park is famous for Royal Bengal Tigers and Asiatic elephants
 It spreads over an area of 520 square Kms and comprises of hills, marshy
depressions, riverine belts , grasslands and large lake
 The park is home to 488 species of plants and over 586 species of
resident and migratory birds

Conservation Management
Three key conservation projects running in Corbett are :
 Project Tiger
 Crocodile Conservation Project
 Project Elephant
There is also The Corbett Foundation which is a non-government and non-profit
association working for the conservation of the animals in the park. The Corbett Foundation
is dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and nature. Some of it’s objectives are :
 To protect and safeguard the exclusive ecosystems of Corbett in the foothills of the
Himalayas
 To create attentiveness for the prominence of Conservation of the Corbett country for
future generations
 Funding wildlife research projects
 Raising resources to achieve the above

Best birds and mammals watching trails


 Dhikala Zone
Considered as the best zone for tiger sighting, it is the most preferred choice for the night stay by the wildlife
lovers. Other animals like wild elephants, Spotted Deer, Wild pigs, Hog Deer and Barking Deer are mostly
seen in this region
 Jhirna Zone
Along with the majestic tigers, the wild bears are the main attraction of this zone. Other animals like wild
elephants, sambar and various species of deer along with a large number of bird species are found in this
zone
 Dhela Zone
This zone is rich in the fauna species too with the animals like the Royal Bengal tiger, leopards, wild elephants,
Nilgai, different species of Deer, wild bears and the various species of reptiles and birds
 Haati Dangar
We have roosting site for the Vultures, Storks, Eagles, Kingfishers, Sandpipers, species of Lapwings, Martins
 Kosi Barrage and Sitabani

Best Time to Visit And Safari Timings


December to March is the ideal time to visit the Jim Corbett National
Park. The temperature slides down to a cool 5 °C. The weather is perfect
for visitors and the wildlifie residing at the park

Safari Timings-
Jeep: 5:30am-9:30am, 2:00pm-6:00pm
Canter: 5:30am-11:30am, 1:00pm-6:00pm

Main Attractions
 Dhikala is situated at the fringes of Patli Dun valley. There is a rest house, which was built
hundred of years ago. Kanda ridge forms the backdrop, and from Dhikala, there are views of the
valley

 Kalagarh Dam is located in the south-west of the wildlife sanctuary. Many


migratory waterfowl come here in the winters

 Corbett Falls is a 20 m (66 ft) water fall situated 25 km (16 mi) from Ramnagar, and 4 km
(2.5 mi) from Kaladhungi, on the Kaladhungi–Ramnagar highway. The falls are surrounded by
dense forests

 Garjiya Devi Temple is sacred to Garjiya Devi and is mostly visited during the Kartik
Purnima (November – December). It is located on the bank of the river Kosi, amidst the hilly
terrains of Uttarakhand, nearby Garjiya village, at a distance of 14 km. from Ramnagar,
Uttarakhand, India
