Technical Feasibility

- A measure of the practicality of a specific

technical solution and the availability of
technical resources and expertise.
Variables to consider:
1. Materials and supplies
2. Location, site and environment
3. Engineering and technical assistance available,
and Human resources
Materials and supplies
Some possible questions to ask:
 Are there enough raw materials available of
the correct quality when needed?
 Is the cost satisfactory?
 Are there available equipment for expected
production volume and at reasonable cost?
 Can the equipment be made by local
workshops and maintained and the
consequent repair cost affordable?
Location, Site and Environment(Area
Selection)
Considerations:
a. Possible locations? Outright purchase? To
build? To rent? What size? Costs? Where the
facility will be located relative to its
customers? How difficult to build? Size of
plant vis-à-vis production capacity.
b. Access to infra(electrical/communication
lines; highways, railways, ports/harbors) How
to transport products? Costs?
c. Pollution caused by operation?
Engineering and Technical/Human Resources
Necessary:
d. Are there trained personnel(technicians to
operate the business?
e. People of specialized skills to operate
machineries and equipment.
In summary, technical feasibility assesses the
details of how to deliver a product or service (i.e.,
materials, labor, transport, where business will be
located etc.). It is a logistical and tactical plan on
how the business will produce, store, deliver and
track its products and services!
For your final submission, react to the given
case.
Considering the different dimensions of a
feasibility study(i.e, market, economic, social,
financial and technical) , is it necessary to
conduct the different parts simultaneously? Can
one or more dimensions be deferred in favor of
one or two that if proven not viable may cut-
short the whole process? Explain why. Examples
may be given to support your answer.
