    Spelling
    Verb ending in -e take –d
    Like - liked
    Dance - danced
    Live - lived
    • Verbs ending in a consonant + y, drop the y
    and take - ied
    Study - studied
    Worry - worried
    carry - carried
    But verbs ending in a vowel + y, take - ed
    Play – played
    • Verbs
    ending in one stressed vowel between two
    consonants double the last consonant and take –
    ed
    Stop - stopped
    Sob – sobbed
    Rub – rubbed
    . Do not double one – syllable verbs ending in “w,”
    “x” or “y”
    • Glow - glowed
    • Fix – fixed
    • Play – played
    Verbs ending in one L, double the l
    and take –ed
    Travel - travelled

    • Yesterday
    • Last night
    • Last month
    • Three weeks ago
    • In 1995
    • Etc
    Affirmative form
    • We form the past simple of regular verbs by adding –ed to the main verb.
    Example: (regular)
    • He played football yesterday.
    • She worked very well the last night
    Example: (irregular)
    • We bought a big chocolate cake.
    • He ate the whole cake because , he was very hungry
