What is giving?
Giving is the highest expression of potency. In the very act of
giving, I experience my strength, my wealth, my power. This
experience of heightened vitality and potency fills me with
joy.

What does one person gives to another?

Giving
The ability to love as an act of giving depends on the
character development of the person.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Basic elements, common to all forms of love
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Care
Example 1: Mother’s love for her child.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Responsibility
Care and concern imply another aspect of love; that
of responsibility.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Respect
Responsibility could easily deteriorate into domination and
possessiveness, were it not for a third component of love,
respect.
Respect is not a fear and awe, it denotes the ability to see a
person as he is, to be aware of his unique individuality.
Respect means the concern that the other person should grow
and unfold as he is.
Respect, thus, implies the absence of exploitation.
Respect is possible only if I have achieved independence.
Respect exists only on the basis of freedom. (Love is the child
freedom, never that domination.)

Knowledge
To respect a person is not possible without
knowing him; care and responsibility would be
blind if they were not guided by knowledge.

Knowledge
Example: I may know for instance, that a person is
angry, even if he does not show it overtly; but I may
know him more deeply than that; then I know that is
anxious, and worried, that he feels lonely, that he
feels guilty. Then I known that his anger is only the
manifestation of something deeper, and I see him as
anxious and embarrassed, that is, as the suffering
person, rather than as the angry one.

The objects of Love
Love is not primarily a relationship to a specific person; it is
an attitude, an orientation of character which determines the
relatedness of a person to the world as a whole, not toward
one “object” of love.
If I truly love one person I love all persons, I love the world, I
love life. If I can say to somebody else, “I love you,” I must
be able to say, “I love in you everybody, I love through you
the world, I love in you also myself.”

Brotherly love
Is love for all human beings; it is characterized by
its very lack of exclusiveness.
There is the experience of union with all men, of
human solidarity, of human at-onement.

Motherly love

Erotic Love
It is craving for complete fusion, for union with
one other person. It is by its nature exclusive and
not universal; it is also perhaps the most deceptive
form of lover there is.

sexual relationships
Erotic love… “Falling” in love?
The sudden collapse if the barriers which existed
until that moment between two strangers, but this
experience of sudden intimacy is by its very nature
short lived. After the stranger has become an
intimately known person there are no more barriers
to be overcome, there is no more sudden closeness to
be achieved.

Erotic love… “Falling” in love?
Mostly, intimacy is established by primarily through
sexual contact.

Erotic love… “Falling” in love?
Sexual desire can be stimulated by the anxiety of aloneness, by
the wish to conquer or be conquered, by vanity, by wish to hurt
and even to destroy, as much as can be stimulated by love.
Love can inspire the wish for sexual union; in this case the
physical relationship is lacking in greediness, in a wish to
conquer or to be conquered, but is blended with tenderness
(Direct outcome of brotherly love, and exists in physical as
well as in nonphysical forms of love).

Erotic Love
If the desire for physical union is not stimulated
by love, if erotic love is not also brotherly love, it
never leads to union in more than orgiastic,
transitory sense.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Erotic Love… EXCLUSIVENESS
Excludes the love for others ONLY in the sense of
erotic fusion, full commitment in all aspects of life –
but not in the sense of deep brotherly love.

Erotic Love
Love: act of will, of decision to commit my life completely
to that of one other person.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Erotic Love
We can love everybody in the same way in the
sense of brotherly love.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Self-Love
The love for my own self is inseparably connected
with love for any other being.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Self-Love
The affirmation of one’s own life, happiness,
growth, freedom is rooted in one’s capacity to love,
i.e. in care, respect, responsibility, and knowledge.
If an individual is able to love productively, he
loves himself too; if he can love only others, he
cannot love at all.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Self-Love
Selfish person is interested only in himself, wants
everything for himself, feels no pleasure in giving,
but only in taking.
Making difference & creating inspiration through life changing presentations @ arifanees@gmail.com
Love of God
It springs from the need to overcome separateness
and to achieve union.
In fact, the love of God has as many different
qualities and aspects as the love of man has – and
to a large extent we find the same differences.
