Meter is determined by the pattern of
accented beats.
It can be in twos, threes, or fours. It is
classified into two, the simple meter and
the compound meter. In simple meter,
the pulse can be divided into two inner
beats. Simple meters can be in twos or
simple duple, threes or simple triple, or
fours or simple quadruple.

The top number of the time signature


tells the number of beats in each
measure and the lower number tells the
note that represents the beat. Number
four indicates that the quarter note gets
one beat.
