 Have you watched a parade of marching bands? Observe the


way they march with precision.
 To keep their pace synchronized, the members of the marching
band constantly move in beats of 2s.
Discussion
 Music in time signature can be accompanied by marching.
 Conducting pattern for time signature:

The upper digit of the time signature


indicates the number of beats in each
measure, while the lower digit indicates the note
value that gets one beat (the beat unit).

 Look at the notes in each measure of the song "Dance." Add
the durations or values of the notes in each measure. Were you
able to obtain the same result in all the measures?
Discussion
 Here is how to check if the number of beats in a measure
agrees with the time signature. Remember the duration or
value of each kind of note and rest.
Application
Write the duration or value of the notes and rest in the box and
check if the sum is equal to two beats.
Generalization
 Music in time signature can be accompanied by marching.
 The upper digit of the time signature indicates the number of
