INTRODUCTION
 A test is the major and most commonly used instrument
for the assessment of cognitive behaviors.
 An achievement test is a test of developed skill or
knowledge. The most common type of achievement
test is a standardized test developed to measure skills
and knowledge learned in a given grade level, usually
through planned instruction, such as training or
classroom instruction.
CLASSIFICATION OF TEST
Meaning
Non standardized test /Teacher Made Test
A non-standardized test is one that allows for an assessment
of an individual's abilities or performances, but doesn't allow
for a fair comparison of one student to another.
 • Basically teacher made tests are used to evaluate the progress
of the students in school. However , the specific use of tests
may vary from school to school and teacher or teacher.
• The test results can be used for students, teachers, and for
other administrative purposes.
 • These tests are very simple to use.
 • Easy for the students.
 • Teachers can assess the strengths and weaknesses of
students.
 CONTI………
 • Tests are conducted continuously and children
get immediate feedback.
 • Teachers can understand the need for re-
teaching concepts and can decide remedial
instruction.
 • Teacher made tests devised by the teachers is to
meet their various needs and directives.
 • Tests are not so carefully and scientifically prepared
 • The items of teacher made tests are seldom
analyzed and edited.
 • The types of behavioral changes covered are
often limited in scope.
CHARACTERISTICS
 Constructed by test experts or specialists.
 Covers broad or wide areas of objectives and content.
 Selection of items will be done very carefully and the
validity reliability, usefulness of the rest is ascertained in
a systematic way.
 Procedure of administration is standardized.
 Test has clear directions and it will be motivating,
encouraging students.
 Scoring key is provided.
 Test manual provides norms for the test.
 It should be fixed.
CONTI……
 It is specific direction for administering
and scoring the test.
 • It consist of standard content and
procedure
 • It provides standardized frame of
reference determining individual
performance.
 Unbiased— The test should not place
students at a disadvantage because of
gender, ethnicity, language. or disability.
OBJECTIVITY

 Objectivity Refers to the degree to which equally

competent scorers obtain the same results. Most
standardized tests of aptitude and achievement are
high in objectivity.
 Objectivity represents the agreement of two or
more raters or a test administrator concerning the
score of a student.
 Not influenced by emotion or personal prejudice.
 Lack of objectivity reduces test validity in the same
way that lack reliability influence validity.
VALIDITY
 Validity is an important characteristic of any test. This refers to what
the test really measures. A test is valid, if it measures what we
really wish to measure. The word validity means truth or fidelity is
not the self-correlation of the test rather it is the correlation with
some outside independent criteria.
 Validity has three important properties:
 1. It is a relative term. A test is not generally valid. It is valid for
a particular purpose. For example a test of statistical ability will
be valid only for measuring statistical ability.
 2. Validity is not a fixed property of the test, because validation is not
a fixed process rather it is an unending process.
 3. Validity like reliability is a matter of degree and not an all or none
property.
Types Of Validity

 Content Validity

 Face Validity

 Criterion-Related Validity

 Construct Validity
RELIABILITY

 Reliability is another characteristic of any test

 the precision or accuracy of the measurement
or score
 A well-developed scientific tool should give
accurate results both at present as well as
over the time.

the reliability coefficient of the test
score

USABILITY

 Usefulness of an object or product

 Considered as the ease of use or the extent
to which a product can be used by a specified
user
 In education the teacher verifies the accuracy
of information obtained about the students'
performance after administering an
educational tool.
NORMS

 Standard of comparison for test

results developed by giving the test
to large well defined groups of
people.

• Lot of scope for copying.
• Conducted as rituals only.
• Answer books not marked with care.
