ATTENTION!
• We usually use gerunds and infinitives whenever we
have two verbs.
• You have to pay attention to the principal verb (verb
1) so that you can decide whether to use –ing form or
to + verb on the following verb (verb 2).
Example:
I enjoy going to rock concerts.
I want to go to a rock concert.
1. We use –ing after verbs such as:

2. As the subject or object of a sentence

• Collecting flowers is my hobby.


• Eating healthy food is important.
• Doing homework is mandatory in the class
3. After prepositions
• They are interested in studying
archaeology.
• They dream of becoming
archaeologists.
• They are crazy about discovering
ancient cities.
• They are tired of digging in the
sand.
Other expressions: good at/ bad at/ keen on/ bored
with/ fed up with/ afraid of
Examples
• I enjoy watching football on T.V.

• I hate travelling by coach.
