 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Due to financial needs students nowadays cannot afford some school
materials. One of those materials is glue. The researchers conducted a
study to make an alternative glue by the use of gumamela plant.
Gumamela( Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis) plant is possible to transform as an
alternative glue by extracting gumamela mucilage that has the ability to
produce a sticky texture as glue.
Previous years, glues that contains numerous chemicals are being
continuously created by scientists and entrepreneurs. As a century where
technology is tremendously upgrading, it is not new to us that different
products that is more effiecient and effective were created,even in just
minute. On the other hand, before the arise of technology, plants-based
glues have been used by humans for thousand of years
 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

 Is it possible to use Hibiscus rosa-sinensis plant

(gumamela) as an alternative glue?
 Is commercial glue much effective than alternative
glue?

 How long does the gumamela stick to the paper and

other object that can stick to paper?

 METHODOLOGY

This study utilized the quantitative research approach. In

view of this, Bhandari (2020) cited that quantitative research
approach is the process of collecting and analyzing
numerical data. It can be used to find patterns and
averages,make predictions,test casual relationships and
generalize results to a wider population.
The experimental method involves the manipulation of
variables to establish cause and effect relationships. The key
features are controlled methods and the random allocation of
participants into controlled and experimental groups.
 MATERIALS

The materials used in this study were

100 grams of gumamela, 1 liter of
distilled water for boiling, 2 tsp. of
cornstarch , 3 tbs. of baking soda, 5 tbs.
of flour, 1 tsp. of vinegar and 1tsp. of
powdered milk.

It can be concluded from the Table 1 that the

total cost of producing gumamela glue is Php 50.00.
Furthermore, the materials used are readily
available from the locality and household.

 Interpretation:

To test the effectiveness of the produced gumamela alternative glue, the

researchers added the product in a empty container of used glue and tried to
spread some in a piece of paper to test if its effective. In table 2, it shows that in
the first trial, the rate is 3(effective) because of the large amount of water that
added, it resulted to a not so sticky texture. In the second trial, the researchers
took off some water and it resulted a rating of 4(much effective)because the
gumamela has larger amount than the water that’s why it thickens the product.
Researchers are not yet satisfied with the result that’s why they’ve decided to add
more flour and cornstarch that resulted to a rate of 5(very much effective). But
compared to a commercial glue with a mean of 5, it signifies that in terms of
stickiness, Commercial Glue is much effective. But it is still accepted as an
effective alternative glue.

 Interpretation:
In time duration of 30 and 60 seconds the
alternative glue is not that sticky yet. While in 90
seconds, the product is effective but there’s still
some wet areas. The researchers discovered that in
120 seconds the alternative glue is fully dried and
effective in any papers.
 CONCLUSIONS

Based on the gathered results and data analysis

of the researchers , Gumamela extract is an effective
alternative glue. The researchers concluded that the
gumamela extract is acceptable in terms of
stickiness. The researchers also observed the
durability of the product and discovered that in 120
sec the alternative glue is fully effective.
 RECOMMENDATIONS
In the light the previously-mentioned conclusions, the following
recommendations are offered :

1. The researchers highly recommends the improvement of Gumamela as

an alternative glue since it was natural and more affordable.
2. The Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis (Gumamela) flower extract should be
known as a useful alternative glue due to its natural sticky mucilage.
3. In the further development of the study, different treatments of
Gumamela flower are also highly recommended to be observed.
