INFINITIVES, PART I
• Gerunds:
The form of gerunds (adding –ing to the verb)
E.g. walking, swimming, reading…etc.
I am sleeping (present continuous)
I do not like sleeping (gerunds)
GERUNDS VS. INFINITIVES
• Infinitives
The form of infinitives (to + verb)
E.g. to do, to sleep, to eat, to walk… etc.
GERUNDS
RULE 1
• Gerunds can be used as a subject of a sentence
For example:
1. Walking is good for your health.
2. Playing tennis is fun.
• Gerunds is used in the same ways as a noun (as a subject or as an object)
For example:
1. We enjoy playing tennis.
