Cayman Stories And Tradition
In 1503, Christopher Columbus was making his fourth and final voyage to this side of the world when the
winds deflected his boat. It was then that Columbus came across two islands that he would call “Las
Tortugas” because of the number of turtles that resided there. These two islands would later become the
“sister islands” of Cayman. Years later, a map was drawn showing the three islands in the area named
“Ligartos”, in reference to the “caimans”. As early as 1530, the trio of islands was called “Caimans”, derived
from the native word for alligators that inhabited the islands. The name “Caimans” became Cayman, and
since then this has been the name of the islands. It was our ample supply of turtles that made Cayman a
popular port for boats that needed meat for their crews. However, the first settlers arrived on the islands
around 1658 as deserters from the British army in Jamaica. The first settlers were called Bodden and Watler.
Soon would also come fishermen, slaves, sailors and refugees from the Spanish Inquisition.

Cayman Island
The Cayman Islands are a British colony in the Caribbean.
Relatively isolated and far from each other, the islands
have in Cuba and Jamaica, 300 km to the southeast, the
closest neighbors. Tourism is also one of the main
attractions of these islands, representing about 70% of the
gross domestic product. The resident population is mostly
of African-European origin, with about 20% Jamaican. Has
a high literacy rate (98%), and the average life expectancy
is 79 years.
Economy Cayman
Considered a tax haven, the Cayman Islands' economy is one of the strongest in the
Caribbean. Of the nearly 40,000 companies registered on the island, 600 are banks, with a
turnover of US$ 500 billion in assets. Tourism is also another important source of income
and is aimed at high-income travelers, mainly from the North American area. The Cayman
Islands have been associate members of the Caribbean Community since 2002.
Issuing stamps for collections is also another source of income

Triangular trade may result from several factors, in which case it is worth
highlighting PETROBRÁS interest in importing oil, and its derivatives, and
oil gas from Argentina, through its subsidiary in the Cayman Islands, for
financing reasons and possibly due to more favorable tax treatment. Only
the financial operation is carried out in Cayman, with the oil being
transported directly from Argentina to Brazil. In addition to the Cayman
Islands, this practice of triangular trade in products of Argentine origin is
also common with other countries, such as Uruguay, from which Argentine
wheat was mainly purchased.ou could enter a subtitle here if you need it.

Fiscal Paradise
Tax havens, also called tax havens, are countries or territories that offer
attractive tax conditions. These are places that offer minimal tax rates,
especially for foreign companies and citizens. In addition, they disclose as
little as possible bank information on foreign customers with their home
countries.

The Cayman Islands is a British territory that constantly appears in the news
as tax havens. Unlike Switzerland, companies were added to the European
Union's list of tax havens in 2020. The reason lies with the investment funds
based in the region, which do not reflect the real economic activity on the
islands.
Tourism
The Cayman Islands are made up of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman
Brac and Little Cayman. The largest, Grand Cayman, has cosmopolitan
energy, gourmet restaurants, world-class diving and the famous Seven Mile
Beach. Cayman Brac is a nature lover's paradise, with enchanting dives and
breathtaking walks along the rocky walls. The smallest island, Little
Cayman, has only 150 inhabitants. Visitors enjoy the relaxing atmosphere
and diving, especially the Bloody Bay Wall, considered one of the best
diving walls in the world.
Grand Cayman
Situated on the west coast of Grand Cayman, Seven Miles Beach now
measures just 5.5 miles, or about 9 km. But its beautiful clear waters and
coral sands still attract visitors from all over the world. On the beach, bars
offer drinks in a lively atmosphere and there is no shortage of restaurants.
Swim with gentle stingrays in Stingray City, shop at Seven Mile Beach
shops, and snorkel and scuba dive in Cemetery Reef's irresistible waters. For
even more activities, visit the Cayman Islands capital, George Town, and
other easily accessible islands. If you prefer, take a towel and enjoy the
beach.

Cayman Brac

Named after the ‘brac’ or ‘bluff’ that dominates this cheese wedge of an island,
the most easterly of the Cayman Islands is also the most authentically
Caymanian. Tourism isn't the name of the game here. Instead, residents work in
the quarries, on fishing boats and in other enterprises, as well as for the local
government. While the island has (almost) all the conveniences of the modern
era, it also has a laid-back, small-island atmosphere that's pretty irresistible.

Little Cayman
The clue is in the name: Little Cayman is tiny indeed, but it abounds in birdlife,
marine life and glorious natural scenery. With more resident iguanas than
humans, this delightful island is the place to head for solitude, tranquility and
some of the Caribbean's best diving.

Curiosities about the island
Origin
The islands were discovered by Christopher
Columbus on May 10, 1503, when a wind
blown the course of his boat during his fourth
and final expedition to the “new world”.

Animal symbol
The discoverers were so impressed by the number
of Galapagos tortoises that inhabited the islands
during the discovery that the country was called
“Las Tortugas” (The Turtles) before receiving the
official name of the Cayman Islands. Even with the
change of name, the animal remains one of the
symbols of the country present everywhere, as in
the logo of the national airline and in the design of
the national flag. In addition, the Cayman Islands
also have a breeding and protection center with
over 16,000 turtles.

Carnival
As in Brazil, the Carnival of the Cayman Islands, the Batabano, shakes fate
every year. The colorful festival lasts one day and is the best date to plan a
visit to the islands. On Carnival day, the ballad is on the street, for everyone.
It's common to find costumed revelers everywhere on Grand Cayman.
Batabano turned 26 in 2019 and takes place every year between the end of
April and the beginning of May. The multicultural festival is free, in the open
air. But some places, like the Peppers restaurant, organize open bar cabins with
heat, which makes everything more fun. Batabano goes back to the Cayman
Islands roots. The word means footprints left in the sand by sea turtles, who
walk on the beach to nest. During Carnival day, there are many references to
the animal, which is in costumes, colors and floats. The festival celebrates
Caribbean culture. Choreographies and colorful clothes refer to the
environment, culture and landscapes of the islands. Like Brazil, the destination
was formed by many different cultures.

Gastronomy
Cayman Islands cuisine is an experience with dishes
created through the fusion of recipes and ingredients from
around the world. With more than two hundred restaurants
with exquisite wine lists, this heritage full of culinary
traditions surrounded by breathtaking landscapes boasts a
reputation as the “Culinary capital of the Caribbean”. One
of the main differences that make Cayman Islands cuisine
the best in the Caribbean is the use of fresh, locally
produced ingredients. One of the traditional ingredients
produced on the islands is sea salt.
