 Kolkata is the capital of the Indian state of West
Bengal. Located on the eastern bank of the Hooghly
River, the city is approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi)
west of the border with Bangladesh. It is the primary
business, commercial, and financial hub of Eastern
India and the main port of communication for North-
East India. According to the 2011 Indian census,

as the cultural capital of India.

transformed on every century, the city is ruled
and evolved under 3 kingdom dynasties ,
colonial rule and democratic government.
Major city development took place during the
colonial britishrule.
Kolkata has many monuments like
Victoria memorial ,Howrah bridge, Writers
building, Indian museum, etc
Its place where literature prospered, and
city is famous for its writers and poets like
Rabindranath Tagore. Bankim chandra
chaterjee etc.
Evolution of city initialy took place along
the hoogly river,at the time of british
rule city developveloped according to
british city planing principles.
At that time the city developed radialy
from central core away from river.
Kolkata is considred as cultural capital of
india,hence it has diverese culture,it’s a city in
which all religion prospered equally,its place
