Francisca Reyes Aquino was a Philippine National artist known as the Mother of Philippine Folk Dance. She started collecting and documenting dances and songs from around the Philippines as early as 1924. She authored six volumes of books that classified the different folk dances of the Philippines into five main groups, including the dances of the Cordillera Groups which contain dances from various ethnic tribes such as the Bontocs, Ifugaos, Benguets, Apayaos, Kalingas, and Ilongots.
