WHAT IS CIVIL SOCIETY?

Civil society is state or situation of people living in

particular community or nation having shared interest,
values and purpose getting benefit to have right of
individuals, enjoying liberty, and to have resources to
develop personal potential.
CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS

• People’s Organizations (POs)- these are membership organizations that represent

marginalized groups and are often organized based on sector, issue, or geographical area.

• Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs)- these are intermediate local and foreign agencies
and institutions that typically operate with full- time staff that complement and provide a wide
range if services to primary organizations, communities, and individuals.

• Cooperatives- these are associations of persons who have voluntarily joined together to make
“equitable contributions to the capital required, patronizing their products and services and
accepting a fair share of the risks and benefits of the undertaking in accordance with
universally accepted cooperative principles”
CIVIL SOCIETY’S ROLE

They have been partners of the government and the business sector in delivering
services especially to our marginalized brothers and sisters in Christ.

They are helping the communities which includes helping develop programs and
strategies to meet the needs of communities, advocating for change, building
capacity, serving as watchdog to ensure good governance, raising awareness on
issues that affect the people , and delivering outcomes where the government
may be having difficulty delivering them on its own.

Civil society ignites the citizen’s capacity to organize themselves to address

issues that involve them and inspire their active and unrestrained engagement.
