MODIFIERS

-a word, phrase, or
clause that describes
another word, phrase,
or clause
Example: He is a cute baby.
Types:
1. Adjectives – modify nouns
and pronouns
2. Adverbs – modify verbs
3. Modifier Phrases – modify an
action or an actor

Modifiers
- are words, phrases, or
clauses that are separated
from the word they modify
- misplacement can sometimes
change the meaning of a
sentence
Example:
On her way home, Carmie found a
gold man’s watch.

leather seats to the buyer.

Clauses
The waiter served a dinner roll to
the woman that was well buttered.

Correct:
The waiter served a dinner roll that
was well buttered to the woman.
