1
OBJECTIVES
 1. To study the mean and variability of
peak yield and other relevant traits in
Sahiwal cows.
 2. To study the correlation between the
peak yield, days to attain peak yield and
300 days milk yield in Sahiwal cows.
 3. To compare the accuracy of two
different methods of prediction of 300
days milk yield on the basis of peak yield.

2
Material and Methods
 Source of Data: Bull Mother Experimental
Farm (BMEF),Veterinary
College, Anjora, Durg
 Duration: 2001-2006

 Total No. of records: 93

 Parities included: 1-7

Traits Recorded/Derived
1. Peak Yield (PY)
2. 300 days milk yield (MY300)
3. Days To Attain Peak Yield (DPY)
4. Pre peak yield (Pr_PY)
5. Post peak yield (Po_PY)
6. Ratio of MY300 to PY(MY300/PY), F
7. Ratio of Po_PY to Pr_PY (PO_PY/ Pr_PY)
8. Estimated MY300_F ( PY x F)
9. Estimated MY300_R ( PY x b +a)

6
Statistical Methods
 Mean, SD, SE, CV, Range, Correlations and
regressions were calculated invoking the inbuilt
functions in MS-Excel.
 For prediction of MY300, the PY was taken as
the independent and MY300 as the dependent
variable and the regression equation was fitted.
 MY300_R = 274.43 + 139.72PY
 MY300 was also estimated by multiplying the PY
with the factor, F.
 My300_F =177.62 PY

7
Measures of Accuracy of Prediction
of MY300
 1. Mean Square Error( MSE)
 MSE= 1/N sum (MY300- Estimated MY300)2
 2.Correlation between MY300 and EMY300
 3. Percent deviation of Emy300 from
MY300
 4. mean of MY300 and EMY300
 5.Co-efficient of variation.

Conclusion
 1. It is possible to predict MY300 on the
basis of peak yield with the deviation as
15 %.
 2. The regression method is more
accurate than the multiplicative factor
method.
 3.The multiplicative factor method could
also be used under field conditions with
very little compromise in accuracy.
