ENERGY POWER
Energy is the capacity to do work. Power is the rate at which work is done, or
energy is transmitted.
Joules = watt-seconds or joule = Newton- watt = joules/second

Electric power systems
An electric power system is a network of electrical components deployed to
1. generators that supply the power,
2. transmission system that carries the power from the generating centres to the load
centres
3. distribution system that feeds the power to nearby homes and industries.

Power Generation at Glance

Transmission Generation at Glance

The transmission lines are operated in accordance with Regulations/ standards
of Central Electricity Authority (CEA) / Central Electricity Regulatory Commission
(CERC) / State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs).

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) is a CPSU looking after

transmission sector.

Sources of Power
Distribution at Glance

Under the Indian Constitution, power is a Concurrent subject and the responsibility for
distribution and supply of power to rural and urban consumers rests with the states.
Government of India provides assistance to states through various Central Sector /
centrally sponsored schemes for improving the distribution sector.
