Evaluate the Current MBC Mission Statement

“Our collective purpose is to achieve long-term profitable growth as a global supplier of high-quality metal-based chemicals. MBC is committed to
excellence in customer service”
CONS:
 Follows the conventional/traditional route of approaching the work environment that is to just focus on the profitability however in the changing
times we have seen that the approach is from “People (employees), Customer & Profit” and the same should be reflected in the mission statement.
 An effective mission statement must clearly define the reason for existence of a company, it's key market, it's core employee values and must be
distinctive. MBC's mission statement fails to inspire it's key stakeholders - the employees and the customer. This statement does not include the
company's contribution in attaining the goal of becoming a global leader, and hence lacks the direction for employees. The statement regarding
commitment to excellence in customer service needs to be more concrete and believable.
 It lacks to establish the point of “sustainable environment” which accounts about 80% of their sales and is a game-changer in today’s world/lacks
differentiation as no USP is highlighted which makes it apart.
 Does not take into consideration the need for adapting to evolving markets and continuous improvement, thereby inducting fresh talent into the
fold.
PROS:
 Answers the mandatory requirement of a mission statement, the "what” and “how” part of the business where it defines what the business is
about and how the business is done by highlighting the core values and competencies in the description.
How should the mission statement be integrated into the company and its culture?

 Familiarize it:
It shouldn’t be just printed on the annual reports but should be made part of orientations, new hires should be onboarded and be provided with the company’s
insights and values through it. It should have an office presence as minimal as being the screensaver or desktop background image.
 Empower employees:
Once declared officially, provide the necessary tools to employees to live by it and help them be a better representative of the company. Identify and award
those who adopt and endorse the mission statement by their actions.
 Align with company values:
Company values should act as the foundations that help achieve the mission statement. These values should be the incorporated in the working culture to
align the employees towards the mission statement.
 Mission-driven Leadership
In order to connect the employees with the organization’s mission, leaders must analyze beyond the mere “what” question of providing a product i.e. “how”
and “why” questions for the organization’s existence should be answered. They should realize why any given employee wants to work at the company. These
reasons should be nurtured and unified with the mission statement.
 Keep Reminding:
Employees should be periodically checked on if they have seen the company’s mission statement in employee engagement activities to make sure they are
aware of the company’s clear goal.
Climate surveys where the organization keeps reminding employees by interacting with employees on what the mission statement is about and how each
employee’s individual contribution helps in achieving the mission.
