WANTED: DEAD HEROES

If you were in Rick’s shoes, how will you respond to the situation? Will you allow Alonzo to
pass through or not? Why and why not?
Regulations and rules were made to be followed. It would be a waste of time, energy
and intellectual prowess if these rules made by the government would be disregarded.
Nationalism and patriotism are not always about sacrificing your life for the betterment of
the nation. You can show your nationalism and patriotism if you are courageous enough to
protect the threatened environment.
We all know that the environment doesn’t just belong to us humans. Animals and
plants, too, have their own fair share and place on the environment. That is why the
government has always put into consideration the preservation and sustainable
development of the environment. When we speak of sustainable development, we are not
just concerned of the present; most importantly, we speak on behalf of the future
generation. We must not be selfish; we must assure that we do not compromise the ability
of the next generation to meet their needs and demands. As citizens of this nation, we are
not always reminded to be aware of our environment. It is a prime duty that we must always
put in our hearts that we are the protectors of the environment. That despite challenges and
doubts, we must be true to our mission to protect and preserve the environment.
In the given scenario, it is clearly ironic that those in the government service are the
ones violating the rules and regulations promulgated by the same government that they
work for. The government is not just the President of a nation; it is the people, the
environment and all resources that make it function as a unit. The President is the
commander-in-chief and the head of the army but that doesn’t mean that they must only
bow down to him and overlook other circumstances that come in their way. If I were on
Rick’s shoes, it would be difficult and risky to be hard on them by not letting them pass
through but it is the only way to ensure that the job given to me is fully realized and
implemented. It is clearly a violation on environmental laws and I would definitely know that
I am on the right side. It might result to misunderstanding but there are different ways to
raise funds for their dead comrades. Taking this decisive action doesn’t just pertain to the
job given to me. Most importantly, as a citizen of this nation, it is my duty to protect the
environment that the government ever so truly preserves.
In the performance of our job as a government employee, this doesn’t just happen
once in a lifetime. We might be bombarded by the same scenario every day for the rest of
our service in the government. But despite this, we must not be discouraged and be blinded
by authority and power. Whoever is in front of us, as long as we do the job that is given to
us, should not be a problem. Understanding and empathy are key to a harmonious
relationship and transaction. After all, when it comes to environmental issues, we must all
be driven towards the same goal. And again, that is to protect and preserve it not just for
our present use but also for that of the future generation.
