ANTHROPOLOGY

Anthropology is the study of human societies and cultures


and their development and also it is human study of
biological characteristic and their evolution. Anthropos is
the Greek word for “Human being” and the suffix-logy
means “The Study of’ and the new Latin word
‘Anthropologia’ is ‘The study of humanities’with a
number of other words in English such as
anthropomorphize, philanthropy and misanthrope.
WHAT DOES ANTHROPOLOGY
MEAN?
Anthropology is the scientific study of
the origin of humans, how we have
changed over the years and how we
relate to each other both within our own
cultures and people from other cultures.
The brief history of anthropology founded in the
1920s and 1930s anthropology assumed its
present form as a four- field academic
profession in the united states under the
influence of German-born American
anthropology “ Franz boas “ wanted
anthropology to be a well- respected science.

 Archaeological anthropology
 Biological-physical anthropology
 Socio-cultural anthropology
 Linguistic anthropology
ARCHAEOLOGICAL ANTHROPOLOGY
 Has been derived from the broad field of
archaeology “Archaios” means ‘ancient’ and
“logia” means ‘study’ which is concerned with the
study of the extinct cultures. Man is the central
figures of anthropology existed long before the
development of written record.
BIOLOGICAL OR PHYSICAL
ANTHROPOLOGY
 Biological anthropology or also known as physical
anthropology, is a scientific discipline concerned
with the biological and behavioral aspects of
human beings, their extinct hominin ancestors, and
related non-human primates, particularly from an
evolutionary perspective.
SOCIO-CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY

 Socio-cultural anthropology focus on the study of


society and culture, while often interested in
cultural diversity and universalism, additionally
socio cultural anthropology is often split into social
anthropology and cultural anthropology .
LINGUISTIC ANTHROPOLOGY

 Ethnolinguistic is the interdisciplinary study of


how languages influences social life, it is a branch
of anthropology that originate from the endeavor to
document endangered languages. And has grown
over the past century to encompass most aspects of
language structure and use.
