THEME
● Based on a 1982 Stephen
king novel
● Written and directed by
Frank Darabont
● Revolves around two
imprisoned men- Andy
and Red.
● Prison drama- set in
Portland,Maine.
● Inspiring and Interesting
WHAT MAKES IT GREAT?
● The movie creates a warm hold on our feelings, even though it is
set inside a prison.
● The movie uses the narrator’s calm and observant voice.

● The key to the movie is not about it’s hero but our relationship with
the hero-{our admiration, our pity, our curiosity}.

● If Andy would have been enduring, the movie would have been
conventional.
DRAWBACKS
● The title was not appealing.
● It was a prison drama.
● The movie contained almost no action
sequences.
● Starred actors who were respected but
not huge stars.
● It was 142 minutes long.
● Despite of this the movie was widely
appreciated and rose to fame in less
than 5 years.
Favourite Line
"Forget that... there are places
in this world that aren't made
out of stone. That there's
something inside... that they
can't get to, that they can't
touch. That's yours."
