Director : Bong Joon- ho
SYNOPSIS

The struggling Kim family sees an

opportunity
When the son starts working for the wealth
Park family. Soon, all of them find a way to
work within the same household and start
living a parasitic life.
The first half of parasite plays out largely as a
comedy-drama with a compelling narrative and
thought provoking themes.
The Kim family lives in a semi-basement and
struggles to keep food on the table. They take on
odd jobs for cash like folding pizza boxes,
and rely on unprotected Wi-Fi networks and street-
cleaning pesticides to keep their homes insect free.
Ki-woo, the son, is gifted a scholars stone or
suseok by a friend and given a recommendation
for a tutoring job with a wealthy family.
The scholars stone or suesok

This stone is said to bring wealth to families.

The significance and symbolism of how it is
used is Seen through out the movie.
Ki-woo and his sister Ki- Jung forge credentials
for the job, and thus begins the long-con that
sees each member of the family infiltrating the
upper-class park family one-by-one.
Ki- Jung begins working for the parks under the
guise of an art-therapy teacher. Before long, the
mother and the father are in the Park’s family,
and it seems like everything is going perfectly
for the Kim family
One night when the Parks are on a camping trip, Kim
and family decide to have a nice little party at their
home. They talk about how nice the Parks are, and
whether it’s the money that makes them so, or
whether it’s the fact that money means they are left
with “no resentments”. Looking on at the front yard
through large French windows, as a storm builds,
they are imagining owning a house such as this.
Their nightmare starts, when a parasitic
Interloper threatens the Kim's new found
Comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for
Dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy
the fragile ecosystem between the Kim’s and
the Parks.
What seems like a blessing to the Parks is a
nightmare to the Kim's.
conclusion
The Kim family has a parasitic relationship with
The Parks. They feed off their wealth, and it
Sustains them. But before you go demonizing
the Kim’s, think about the Parks. Their wealth
Allowed them to feed off poor people like the
Kim’s and like the servants they had before
Kim’ s as well.
Both sides are at fault. Both sides are
Protagonists and antagonists.
Some facts on Parasite
1. The original title of the
film was "The Décalcomanie."
2. The Kim family's house,
alleyway, and neighborhood
houses were all
built on a set that doubled
as a water tank.
3. The first floor and private
front yard of the Park home
were built in an empty lot in
Jeonju, South Korea. A green
screen was then placed on top
and a second floor was added
digitally. Each room in the
home was built on separate
sound stages.
4. The film was
initially imagined as a play
when Bong Joon-ho first came
up with the idea in 2013.
5. Bong pulled inspiration
from his own life. He worked
as a tutor for a wealthy
family when he was in
college and often felt like
he was "spying" on them.
6.The word "ram-don"
was created by the translator
for the film and is a dish
consisting of two different
types of instant noodles: black
bean and spicy seafood flavor.
7. And finally, despite dreaming
it up at the end of the film, it
would actually take Kim Ki-woo
540 years to buy the home his
dad is trapped in, based on his
average salary.
