NURSING DIAGNOSIS
DEFINITION:-

 Cancer that begins in the mucus-producing cells


on the inside lining of the stomach
(adenocarcinoma).
INCIDENCE:-

Incidence increases with age.


 More common in men.
RISK FACTORS:-

Inflammation of stomach (gastritis)


Helicobacter pylori infection
Gastric ulcers
Family history
Certain health conditions:
1. Chronic inflammation

Life-style factors:
Smoking
Drinking alcohol
Less intake of fruits and vegetables
1. Excessive intake of spicy foods.
SIGN/SYMPTOMS:-

Progressive loss of appetite


Gastric fullness
Dyspepsia
Blood in the stools (Melaena)
1. Vomiting
Cont.....

Pain relieved with antacids


Indigestion
Mild nausea
1. Heart burn
In More Advanced Cancer Patient May
Have:
Discomfort in upper or middle part of abdomen
Weight loss
Pain after eating
1. Weakness or fatigue associated with mild
anaemia.
DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION:-

History collection
Upper GI radiography
Endoscopy
Cytologic examination
CT scan
1. Barium X-ray examination
COMPLICATIONS:-

Haemorrhage
Dumping syndrome (Symptoms arising after
operation)
Metastasis
1. Death.
MANAGEMENT:-

Chemotherapy for further disease control, or for


palliation (5-fluorouracil, cisplatin, mitomycin-C).
Radiation for palliation
1. Subtotal gastrectomy or total gastrectomy.
NURSING DIAGNOSIS:-

Pain related to disease process or surgery


1. Imbalance nutrition related to Malignancy and treatment.
