Purposes of nursing informatics
Nursing Education: Through nursing
informatics, nursing students can retrieve
literature. Computers have significantly present
huge amounts of data and catalogues which can
search systematically.
Computer- Assisted Learning:
Nursing students can enjoy learning the basic
nursing care through software programs.
Distance Learning:
Through nursing informatics, online degrees in
nursing and continued professional education
have been a trend
Documentation of Client Status and
medical records Nursing informatics can
make the impossible organization of huge
records possible.
Care to patients :Nursing informatics has
a numerous positive outcomes in
delivering care to patients.
Advantages of nursing informatics
Nurse Informaticists promote and facilitate
access to resources and references.
Support for their mission to deliver high quality,
evidence-based care
Support for better service by facilitating true
interdisciplinary care
Improvement in key relationships with Providers
and care recipient
Enable cost savings and productivity goals
Facilitate change management
Enhance continuity of care

Abstract
Objectives: To assess the level of knowledge and
use of nursing informatics amongst nurses in
Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-

Materials and Methods: Cross- sectional descriptive
research design was adopted for this study. Multi
stage sampling technique was adopted to achieve the

was used to elicit information from the respondents
and analysis was done using (SPSS) version 22.
Result: The mean age of the respondent is
35±0.48.The overall knowledge of nursing
Informatics among respondents was high121.5(75%)
had good knowledge of nursing informatics and the
overall use of nursing informatics was good
157(99.4%). There was no statistically significant
relationship between knowledge and the use of
nursing informatics among the respondents p >0.05.
