COLLABORATION

Collaboration is where two or more

people or organizations work together
to realize or achieve something
successfully.
WHAT IS COLLABORATIVE
LEARNING?
Collaborative learning
• collaborative learning is a comprehensive term for "a
variety of educational approaches involving joint
intellectual effort by students, or students
teachers together." and
COLLABORATIVE CURRICULUM

Collaborative curriculum planning is the

process to determine the most appropriate
curriculum options and adjustments for a
student with special education needs.
COLLABORATIVE CURRICULUM Cont….

• This usually involves a team having significant

knowledge and understanding of the student.

• The team comprises parents, teachers and other

significant individuals in the student’s life. It also
includes the student themselves.
During the collaborative planning process, it
iis mportant to consider:-

• The needs, strengths, goals, interests and prior

learning of the student as they transition through
stages of schooling

• Whether adjustments are needed for teaching,

learning and assessment in relation to each subject
During the collaborative planning process, it is
important to consider:- Cont…..

• The sequence and emphasis to be given

to particular areas of syllabus content

• How the student will demonstrate

achievement of outcomes and the method of
reporting.
Through the collaborative curriculum planning
process, the following can be determined:-
• Outcomes and content most appropriate for
the student in each key learning area.
• Adjustments or support required for particular
teaching, learning and assessment
opportunities.
• Learning goals for the student.
• Pattern of study most appropriate for
the student.
COLLABORATIVE CURRICULUM
DEVELOPMENT IN TEACHER DESIGN
TEAMS
• Teachers' participation in collaborative
curriculum development is considered as having
great potential for creating materials which are
suitable for their specific context and for their
professional development.

Collaboration in the design is aimed to the
general decisions and not the construction of
materials.
5 Essential Strategies To Facilitate Collaborative
Curriculum Conversations

1. Schedule
2. Process
3. Purpose
4. Protocols
5. Action

1.Schedule
When schools begin curriculum mapping,
scheduling each stage of the process is
essential.
2. Process
A recognized and established review process
across the school or district that includes both
macro and micro review structures.
3.Purpose
Without clarity of purpose collaborative
curriculum conversations are unlikely to
occur.
4. Protocols
It is essential that clear protocols are established to
ensure an environment where all members of the
school system feel their contributions are valued and
respected, and a practice of ‘suspending all judgment’
is at the heart of these conversations.
5. Action

• Timely synthesis of data

• Feedback and further review and refinement
• Specific strategies, actions and timelines
