INTRODUCTION

The Industrial Technology Development Institute of the Department


of Science and Technology (DOST-ITDI), as a mover to develop
technologies and solutions that support the growth of industries, also
provides for every “Juan” and “Juana” a source of livelihood that’s
reasonably affordable.

These technologies are simple, adaptable, and useful in any situation,


be it normal times or trying times like during disasters and the current
pandemic.
BANANA PRODUCTS
The banana chips is one of the most popular fruit snacks and
delicacy, are made with thinly sliced bananas that are deep-fried in hot
oil and packed in sealed pouches. It is crispy, golden yellow, and
available in sweet and salty flavors. The process below is easy to follow
and it can really help entrepreneurs to increase livelihood in the
community.
The banana soap is made with all natural ingredients to soften and
protect your skin. Fresh and clean natural ingredients help your skin care
healthy without irritation. In banana, There are lots of vitamin E, Vitamin
A and tannic acid to increase elasticity, help anti-aging and to keep your
skin moist.
Bananas are rich in antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins and other
nutrients that can help reduce the appearance of aging.
Materials:
•3 cups grated soap base
•1 cup water
•¼ cup beeswax chips
•¼ cup pureed banana (must be fresh, ripe and no bruising)
•¼ teaspoon of citric acid (or 1 teaspoon lemon juice)
•½ teaspoon or 20 drops Vitamin E or Grapefruit Seed Extract
•½ cup dried milk
•10 drops banana FO
•10 drops coconut EO
•Hand Grater/Food Processor
•Measuring Cups
•Double Boiler
•Wood Spoon
Instructions:
1.Grate soap and measure out 3 cups. Gather and pre-measure all other ingredients.
2.Puree the banana and add citric acid.
3.Prepare double boiler. Melt together the grated soap and water.
4.Once soap has melted add the beeswax.
5.When the beeswax has melted and been mixed well into the soap mixture you can add colorant if you
desire. Place the colorant and 1 tablespoon of carrier/base oil in a small glass dish. Place in
microwave on a low temperature and heat in 10-second intervals until colorant is dissolved in the
carrier/base oil. Stir and add to the melted soap. Mix well by stirring.
6.Remove soap from heat and add remaining ingredients and mix well.
7.Allow soap to cool and thicken. Once cool to touch, remove a small handful and shape in to a ball.
8.Let the soap balls dry for several hours. This time experiment with shapes. Flatten the soap ball in to
a thick flat shape. Let soap dry for 24-48 hours.
9.Let soap dry for 24-48 hours. Mix a few drops of coconut EO with 1-2 tablespoons of carrier/base oil
like almond oil or coconut oil. Apply a small amount of this oil to your hands. Pick up one soap at a
time and polish the soap with your hands. Repeat process for remaining soap. Allow the soap to air dry
for 24-48 hours.
The banana sauce that is prepared using clean mixtures of spices,
vinegar, sugar, and banana puree, with or without stabilizers and
preservatives. It is cooked at a certain temperature and desired
consistency, and usually packed in bottles.
Banana Sauce Ingredients:
1 kilo, Ripe bananas
1/4 liter, Vinegar
3 3/4 liter, Water
100 gm., Salt
1 kilo, Sugar
2 pcs. (Red pepper, big)
15-20 pcs., Chili
2 tsp., Powdered pepper
1 whole Onions, chopped
1 pc. Garlic, minced
1 tsp., Red catsup
1/3 tsp., Cloves
1/3 tsp., Paprika
1/3 tsp., Cinnamon
0.08-1%, Sodium Benzoate
Food coloring: 1/2 tsp. chocolate brown
1/4 tsp. strawberry red
Procedure:
1. Remove the banana peelings.
2. Grind the banana with water, chili chopped onions and garlic.
3. Add the remaining ingredients except sodium benzoate and food coloring.
4. Cook until thick, and sodium benzoate and food coloring. Stir very well.
5. Place in bottles while hot and seal tightly.
RECOMMENDATIONS

The Philippine banana industry is currently one of the top agricultural


export earners. The increasing demand worldwide has resulted in greater
expansion of area planted to banana, including those in environmentally
critical places.
 Maximize availability and generate new leads of creativity on resources.
 Reducing overall direct costs will have a significant impact on gross
margin and to negotiate better prices or discounts for everything to buy.
Provided the quality is comparable finding the best prices may require
finding a new supplier.
