PUNCTUATION
Full stop (.)
 Full stop is used to end sentences in the form of statements, used with
abbreviations and indirect questions
Examples:
That woman is only about 5 ft. tall.
My mother is cooking in the kitchen.
Comma (,)
 Used to separate two or three more words
Examples
I go together with salma, nisa and wulan.
my mother buys apple, orange and pear in the market
Question Mark (?)
 Used to mark a question, direct speech and also question tags
Examples
are you still with me, Andi ?
My mother is so beautiful, isn’t she?
Exclamation Mark !
 used to end a command sentence
Examples
Shut up!
open the door please!
Colon :
 used to mark a detailed sentence or general statement
Examples
I buy some vegetables like : carrot, cabbage and salary

The ingredients to make the cake are : sugar, egg, butter and flavour
Quotation Mark “ ”
 It is used to indicate a quote or expression in either a direct sentence or an
indirect sentence.
Examples:
Dika said “stay patient and trust your journey”

“it is a long way”


Paragraph
The combine of several sentences that are interconnected and produce a
specific theme
 Commonly 4 – 10 sentences

Main Sentences

Explanatory Sentences

Conjunction
Main Idea
 This is the main thought that the author wants to convey to the reader.
Main Sentences
 contains the main idea that is laid out expressly at the beginning or the end of
the paragraph
The main sentence is general and will be developed by other
supporting/explanatory sentences.
Explanatory Sentences
Serves to develop and strengthen the ideas conveyed in the main sentence
Explanatory sentences can be complementary data such as opinions, facts, or
valid data.
Examples: "Mount Merapi located in magelang, East Java is an active mountain
in Indonesia. At any time, this mountain of merapi can erupt. The most powerful
eruption of Merapi was recorded in 2010 which took about 330 lives."
Conjunction
Connecting sentences with each other
Examples : And, before, with, so, otherwise, or etc.
