MYPROTEIN PESTLE ANALYSIS

A PESTLE analysis is used as a tool by companies to track the environment they’re operating in or are planning to launch a
new project/product/service… It gives a bird’s eye view of the whole environment from many different angles that one wants
to check and keep a track of while contemplating on a certain idea/plan.

Political – The influence a government may have on the economy for a certain industry. This could include a new tax policies,
Fiscal policy or trade tariffs. If the government was to raise corporation tax or increase value-added tax (VAT) on products
MYPROTEIN would have to alter their pricing structure to maintain their profit margin. Vice versa if the government lowered
VAT or business rates MYPROTEIN could consider lowering their prices in order to entice new customers. Political factors
can have immediate impacts on companies.
Economic – Factors include inflation rate, interest rates, foreign exchange rates and economic growth patterns.
These determine the economy’s performance and can have long term effects on a company. For example, a rise in
the inflation rate of an economy will affect the price of a companies products/services. MYPROTEIN’s cost of
sales would increase which would then reflect in the price of their products. This would be detrimental for
MYPROTEIN as their business model is built on selling good quality products at a cheap price. If their prices were
to increase customers would begin shopping at competitors who offer better quality products at the same increased
price. This move can be represented on a price – quality continuum as seen below:
Technological – Innovations in technology can affect the operations of an industry and the businesses operating within it. The
impacts can be favorable or unfavorable to the market. Automation, research and development and the markets technological
awareness can be affected. MYPROTEIN have a high tech production line including state of the art x-ray machines, near infrared
technology and filtration systems. These technological advances allow MYPROTEIN to create all their products in house which
allows them to keep their prices low. Negative impacts of technological improvements could include loss of jobs or lack of human
interaction for the customer.

Environmental – Factors that influence, or are determined by, the surrounding environment. Certain industries are affected more by
environmental factors such as tourism, farming and agriculture which have direct links with and rely on its surrounding environment.
Factors include climate, weather and geographical location. As MYPROTEIN operates online only and offers international shipping
it cannot be affected by geographical location. MYPROTEIN’s shipping standard can be affected by weather if it causes issues with
transport. There would be a link between weather/climate and their sales in sportswear/leisure wear. They will sell more sportswear,
t-shirts and shorts in warmer weather compared to more leisure wear, jumpers and joggers through colder temperatures.
Legal – Legal analysis considers external laws which affects the business and internal policies which are maintained by the
company. Legislations such as consumer laws, health and safety standards and labor laws can form resultant strategies. As
MYPROTEIN deliver consumable goods they must be guaranteed to contain no harmful products. They are accredited by
the British Retail Consortium, Environmental Health Office and Informed Sport who have all tested and reviewed
MYPROTEIN products guaranteeing they are meeting all legal requirements. MYPROTEIN must adhere to laws such as
the National Minimum Wage currently at the rates as seen in the table below (GOV.ind):
